ok, i wanted to reformat and reinstall my windows XP partition, BUT i dont want have to go through and re install and re register everything else i have. i dont want to have to re install anything. moving files to the fresh install is fine, and re installing drivers is cool. but dont want to have to reinstall games/apps/etc. so what do i have to do to do this?
i know i will have to back up certain parts of the registry, but what ones do i have to back up so that the windows settings are all fresh, but the games/etc are left intact. also what about .dlls? how would i go about copying them so that i could put them back into the fresh windows install?
thanks alot.

What you're asking is
1. nearly impossible.(checking and copying everything connected to an installation -files, folders, dll's, registry- without missing a single thing)
2. would take about forever compared to re-installing OS/drivers/games/apps/tweaks/etc.
Be smart:
1.perform a fresh install with all drivers/tweaks and create a ghost-image.
2.install apps/games and make another ghost-image.
That way you'll always have a quick way to recover to either a "clean install" or a "clean install +games/apps" - takes about 15 to 20 minutes tops.

the only thing on my windows partition is windows, all other apps are in other partitions. ive managed to save small stuff like favourites and start programs and crap during a reformat by putting them to another partition. why cant this work? anybody else have any more definitive awnsers?
