I need to figure out a way to get my rig in here to leech off their bandwith. At this speed I can download a 4gb torrent in an hour or less...
2005-11-23 13:41:55 EST: 33207 / 30453
Your download speed : 33207 kbps or 4150.9 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 30453 kbps or 3806.6 KB/sec.
Now... how could I get my rig in here??

Wireless card and a laptop in a locker. That's how it used to be done.

At UTD, they limit the wireless connection but not the download speed of the wired... so I gotta jack in if I want l33t speeds.

That's what the wireless card is for. You install it into one of their computers.

I had an 802.11b USB stick in the back of one of the Dells at high school.
Perfect...our school had 8Mbit DSL (That's fast in my country :P)...

Go into the lab at night, get a router, and buy some really long ethernet cable (like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812117534) and run it up to your dorm room. If not, go with wwwww's idea and stick in a 802.11b USB stick.

Your thinking of Long Beach, California. I'm not sure if they steal that many cares there, but I wouldnt be surprised. I'm like 99.9% sure it wasnt filmed here.

Even if you are plugged in you still wont get more than 200Mb/s

In our school leaching is easy - the art department is currently testing a WLAN configuration with no encryption and free accessibility.
The wired DL per client is limited to ~4mbit, however the WLAN is not limited in DL rate per connected client, however it is limited to ~20mbit for the whole WLAN.
Either way its fast, having a pda in your lap during english class (directly under the art dept.) gives rise to a bit more fun.

So how would putting a 802.11b USB stick in to one of their computers help? Its just a USB wireless card and it just recives not transmits, it makes sence if you stuck it in to your laptop and connected to their wireless router, but how does putting one in to their computer help?
What makes sence to me is pull the cat5 out of one of their computers, plug it in to a small wireless switch, plug the computer in to the switch. Then using your wireless card in your lap top connect to the network though the switch. That seems like the optimum solution. Does anyone have any better ideas. I am in the same situation myself, need to get connected at my university and the wireless switch idea is the best I've come up so far.

Not that I'm gonna be doing this any time soon, let me just get it straight how I could do it: Take the ethernet cable out of the computer, plus it into something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833314008), plug the router in, plug in an extra cable into the router to the computer, and then I'll have wireless internet?

Take ethernet cable out of one of the schools computers
Plug it in to a wireless router
(at this point the computer is back on the network and functioning)
Now put a wireless card in to your computer/laptop and connect to the wireless router
basicaly school router----> your wireless router----> school pc / your pc
Looking for a small wireless router around 50$. Has to be compatible with 3rd party software. Any sugestions?
have been looking at the LINKSYS WRT54GL
Also what about wireless access points like this:
http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/wa840g/default.asp
or this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833150022
Can you change the signal strength like with wireless routers, can you encrypt/password them so only you have access to it?
My school has a 10MBIT connection, but it's soooo slow :(
The server can'T handle the connections :slapass:
