dont expect you to upload it to a server and use gigs of bandwidth. bittorent would make this pretty efficient.

When I first read the title, I thought you meant that it only took 55mb on your hd. My version uses ~80mb under load and takes up ~700mb. Nlite is the best. I dont have all the updates you have though.

On the subject of Product keys.. This is an unattended install. SO, you have 2 options..

#1. Use an ISO editor and change the product key in the unattended script itself

#2 Change the key once windows is installed.

ive installed my DFI CD completely, the Lan is there and its configured just like it was before (my pc is 192.168.1.2 on my network) but I still cant get net access :confused: although I can reach the router via 192.168.1.1 :S

I think that a minimum production is required for access to this OS, be it time scale or points scored. Haltech I think its time to change the link for the time being. I vote on setting 100,000 points or at least 6 weeks of production, before having access. Its not like its hard to get that score.

Did haltech actually create/strip this build himself or did he just find it and make it known on XS? If he did strip it down himself, what method was used? I'd love to have a list of what services can be removed and so on to create it myself so it's still legal.

not too bad, when i do a fresh install with my lightly nlite'd xp pro and add drivers i use around 120-130mb. if i could get down to 70-80 usage that would be fantastic

If you want to be technical about it, I can't even use the same Windows XP cd on any other computer than the one I originally install it on. I don't see how reloading XP on your new computer (which I have done many times) is any less breaking the rules than Haltech offering a compact XP install for installing DIMES multiple times on the same computer. I'm personally glad that he's offering this, and he stated that he would try to control it by giving it only to dedicated DIMErs.

With regard to the illegal key in the OS the point of it is you are supposed to change it to one of your own. This was explained earlier in the thread.

I will work on making my vms of W2k use less memory, I have six vms currently running on a system with 768mb of ram.

On another note, you should be able to change the unattend answer file on the iso to remove the cd key making the user have to enter their own.

Sure, I'll take that challenge. InSanCen challenged me to 1 million, and he started to outproduce me and overtook me last night, so I did a clean install of XP on my main rig, added 2x256 RAM, and got 11 VMs of haltech's xp running on it. I'm waiting to see if he can bring his production up too.
I've got 4 VMs running on my laptop with 512 RAM, which is all that it can handle, so I might have to find some cheap RAM online to add to the 1.5gb I already have on my a64.

Its possible to make your own stripped-down version of XP. I'd be surprised if some of the people on d2ol havent tried it already. Give nlite a try. (www.nliteos.com). Allows you to get rid of unnecessary windows stuff (drivers you dont need, programs, etc) and can also disable services before you install it on your comp.

this isn't suitable for D20L because D2OL actually uses CPU power. Dimes does not. So even if you install another D2OL on a VM ware your system will not output any more then before, on the contrary, its production'll drop thanks to the added load of the VMware

No, its not "DIMES ONLY", you can use the install for anything, but some stuff proabably doesn't work because windows would be so stripped down. Try it with D2OL and if it doesn't, use nlite to create a win install to your needs.

100% right. I have a mirror of this, and only the peeps that TheWildBlue thinks are dedicated to getting XS_DIMES to number 1 are getting the link & password.
