Opty 146 CABYE vs. CAB2E...preparation

Ok, well I already ordered from tankguys, and it will be one or the other, but in reality, I have a much greater chance of getting a CAB2E...hands down from what I've seen/heard the CABYE overclocks much better... but is the CAB2E that bad??? Should I consider returning it if its a CAB2E and wait for a better bang per buck chip to come out? Or just keep it and overclock the max out of that thing...if it was a CABGE then I wouldn't have a second thought to return it.

Saying all of this, I have seen eva2000's OC on the CAB2E, very impressive, however he was using a water cooler if I'm not mistaken. I don't plan on going there, at least not initially.

So my ULTIMATE QUESTION is, how well do the CAB2E's overclock on air(preferably stock fan and hs, but I'd be willing to step up to something beefier)? BY WELL I mean: speed, stability/reliability. If I can get 2.7-2.8Ghz relatively easily on air, I won't complain, if I can get 2.9-3.0Ghz on air then I'd be jumping for joy!!!

Can anyone shine some light onto this subject? I have to make the decision before the chip ships in. haha.

CA2BE is not that bad, is about similar to CABYE 0540FPMW but FPBW is better.

With an XP-90 and Sunon 92mm fan, my 146 CAB2E 0540FPMW does 2.8GHz OCCT stable on air at stock volts. I'd provide a pic or two but it's currently on water doing Super Pi 32M at 3GHz 1.5V :banana:

1. FPBW0540,CAB2E,FPAW,FPMW The diffrence is to small(some fpaw clocks higher than some fpbw,same with fpmw. But the highest gold ex i have seen is now fpbw and after that fpmw)

I had better clocks on a 144 CAB2E than my 148 CABNE if that helps. Didn't even really unleash the potential of the 144 either as I ran out of FSB in the process (on air!). Friggin 9x multiplier lol

Is good enough, those CAB2E aren't that bad...maybe CABYE need 1.475v instead of 1.5v.

Yeah - it's getting really cold in here ;) :D Too bad I was in too much of a hurry with my 146 0540. Can't remember anymore which one of those it was :slap: But still it's rock solid @ 2.8 1,392vcore. My first A64 rig - had it just since monday. What else can you ask for :D

Hey wait, I should've mentioned, I noticed that 5days has a 940 socket??? Mine is a 939, will that affect anything, or is it relatively the same results?

ok, ok, I'm sold and impressed enough..haha. You guys are getting more than adequate overclocks, enough to make the money worth it at least. But what's with everyone having a 940 on here?

But yeah, I don't plan on going with a watercooler any time too soon so when I do get the money get piece the rest of this rig, I'll post more, haha, in the mean time I'll probably have a learn a thing or two from those who have already been there with the CAB2E FMPW, ;)
