View Full Version : Any Opteron 170 Duds yet?

Like the title says, are there any really crappy steppings/weeks/batch's out? I just ordered mine from Mwave and am a little ancy. My 3800 X2 goes to 2650 on 1.43Vcore, and i will feel a little stupid if the 170 wont even match that. Anyone here get a dud yet?

Meh from what i hear or from what people have told me, the 0541RPMW sux, maybe it was just one chip or maybe it's the entire week :( i got a 541 and i couldn't really tell you since i'm on a POS mobo.

my 0541rpmw 170 does 2.65 dual prime stable.

So far my CCBWE 0541RPMW is happy at 10x250 @ 1.35v...but going higher and it needs a lot more juice.
Looks like I might need 1.5v to get 10x270 stable. :(
i think you will see some with cold bugs but not so sure about duds... i had the 0530 cabne everyone was getting all hyped about and it apeared to be a dud but it was just the cold bug once it was on air it ran nice... so far all these chips seem to be winners deff interested in seeing as well if any duds surface..

How is it a cold "bug" when you're running the CPU so out of spec temperature wise? There is no "bug" it's just that users can't get it to perform like they would want in extreme out of spec conditions.
LOL not going to argue with you man. look around you incase you havent noticed your in an over clocking forum thats what we do and talk about. ofcourse its not amds fualt a cpu cant run properly at -60c we aint that stupid! we just call it a cold bug cause at a certin temp the cpu doesnt like to run right. but ofcourse you already know this i think you just wanted to argue...

thats my 170 0536MPMW 086 Batch at 2x2500Mhz 1,312Vc Dual Prime 24.14 Custom FFTS in place. Best Stepping by 170 and 175 is the 0530TPMW.

Sorry to take the thread slightly off topic, but have you seen any opteron 170s with a dud IMC??? I have a X2 3800+ with an IMC that is very "picky" (mild expression :( ) and I ordered a 170 with the hope that the IMC would be, at the very least, goooood...
With my current X2 I am having trouble with my 2Gig Ballistix to run at default speeds (250@3-4-4-8).
Regardless, I am pretty certain it's an IMC-oriented problem since browsing through various combinations of DRAM Drive strengths+ DRAM Data Drive strengths at e.g. 265@2.85 gives me anything from 50.000 errors on the first pass of memetest#5 to 1 (ONE) error on #5. Of course Windows stability is out of the question.
I hate RMAing good memory if its an IMC problem...
