Some pics and results... 100% stock and air for the 2 x XFX. FX-57 on DI.
The cards definitely need to be modded for more voltage... (I'll keep compiling the results in the first post since that's where everyone looks!)

I think I'm getting the hang of it.... not bad with totally stock cards on air.

One of the cards is simply a beast...669/1950 right out of the box stock on air....

Edit: Was orginally having problems as posted below.... changed topic to reflect current status! :)
Okay, I picked up two XFX 7800GTX 512mb... I start out first on my DFI SLI-DR by testing each card individually first and they score on air unmodded around 22100 in 3DMark03 INDIVIDUALLY. I then change the jumpers to SLi and enable SLi in Windows XP. I then run 3DMark03 again this time in SLi and score 21600, LESS than the single card score... what the heck am I doing wrong?? I've got a cooler full of dry ice here but first I need to figure this out!! Help!!

there is enough gap on the sli-dr ?
are you running the 81.94 ?
50k possible ? :D

gocchin

Yeah it's tight but it fits... and running 81.94. XP is saying SLi is enabled... but getting worse scores than single card.... :(

Hopefully the fans are'nt jamming due to the lack of space - it's an odd one thats for sure.

It might not be this, but this happened to me when I had non-matching BIOS's.

Might be worth checking just to be sure.

Fans are definitely spinning... Ithink the bioses are the same otherwise I wouldn't be able to enable sli at all....

you dont need to just be sure you select sli in the driver....

I thought the 81.x series didn't require that the bios be the same, regardless, the bios doesn't have to match anyway for SLI to work, would have just performed a little worse than a matched set. Did you change the MB jumpers over for SLI? If not you have one PCI-E slot at X16 and one at X1.

okay after a fresh install of everything I scored 37,256 in 3D03 so looks like I'm back in business... I'll keep testing tonight with the cards on air and unmodded tonight... maybe voltmod a bit later this week :)

I'm still not very experienced with benching nvidia though... I don't seem to be scoring as high as I should be with these clocks... I really have no idea how to tweak these nvidia drivers... 3644mhz (DI) 621/1841 (stock air) = 38180 in 03 so far....

Make sure to have Riva Tuner as it is your best friend with Nvidia cards. :toast:

Good stuff so far. If you need any tips on OCing the XFX cards shoot me a PM.

my guess would have been your chipset drivers.

if you were running a single card, when you installed your chipset drivers, then the SLI option would not have been installed.
then when you put the second card in, you can enable SLI all you want, but nothing will happen, cause theres no chipset driver installed for the SLI function.

how you fix that, is just uninstall your videocard, reboot, reinstall your chipset driver, with both cards in the the motherboard.
reboot, then install your videocard driver, in your case, 81.94 or higher.
then your set.

that is a nice setup... those are some intense numbers. I need to ditch this 3700+ and get a real cpu.. lol. like an FX60 or something...

After further testing... individually run the cards are awesome... each card can do over 660/1920 stock on air by itself... but together... they don't do nearly as well and it's definitely because of the sli-dr... the card in slot 1 gets so hot cause the 2 cards are basically against each other so it gets like no air... monitoring the temps show that inside card is running 30 degrees hotter!! I need an Expert board!

nope you need 2 240mm delta fans, away are your probs for sure :D

Yeah that might do the trick ;)

Nice. Thank god christmas is close, cause i need me some new cards! ONe question...how have these cards affected chipset temps for you at stock?

I was monitoring the temps and it does get quite hot near the back of the card with the power regulators back there, I tried to keep it cold by blowing a fan in that direction. It hasn't been an issue yet but the chipset fan was spinning at full speed all the time.

Thanks, Gocchin! I've found i need a fan for extended 3d stability as well, and it's pretty frustrating. My DFI and gigabyte boards will not run the 256GTX'es, but the asus does ok. Would you say the same temps as the 256'es?

I've got xfx 78gtx 512m sli
and I've tried bench with E3 37+ & X2 38+
seems 78gtx sli really need a crazy cpu !
at the same cpuclk, x2 runs about 300 than 37+ during 05 benching.
also, gocchin's FX57, 3.1G & 3.65G differs a lot !

How long before you guys think 20K is possible in 3DMark05?

WoW, great comparison. My guess is you need around 3.2ghz of amd power to take full advantage of these blistering fast gpu's.

that was my guess also.. looks like it's holding some water.. heh..

Also, Gocchin - a little OT, but what are you using to cool your FX-57? I might be "in the market" for one and want to plan accordingly.. your clock/vcore numbers look very good.. :)

Nice work T :toast:

Thanks V! Just trying to follow in your footsteps albeit far behind!

Temp,in idle and full load?

I forgot to launch the monitoring in RivaTuner but did check a few times in the Forceware panel after some runs and as I mentioned before when in SLI the inside card was 20-30C hotter! Single card was idling around 35-40C.

Also, Gocchin - a little OT, but what are you using to cool your FX-57? I might be "in the market" for one and want to plan accordingly.. your clock/vcore numbers look very good..

I'm using the best bang for the buck cooler there is. MickeyMouse's $120 Aluminum Mousepot (you can see pics of it on my blog :) ). Hoping to upgrade to a bigger copper one so it may be available soon ;).

Really happy with the results though... I hadn't benched 3D since spring so I was shocked to see the numbers so big :D

Next step is volt mods and water cooling for the cards first... :toast:

woah that's bloody awesome.... if you sell that one let me know first as i'm no volt modder or extreme GPU cooler so stock air is for me :D missed out when you sold those eVGA 6800U awesome clockers too hehe
