I think the opteron's are a better piece of silcon because they are made for rackmount servers.
I just recently sold my x2 4400 for a opty 170 and i am very pleased, i would expect more mhz with less volts with optys across the board.
And i would know cause i have very bad luck with chips.

btw im getting him top notch watercooling(not a chiller though)
i had to make this same choice man i had sold my fx57 and wanted a 4800x2 but on the other hand had to decide over the optie 180. i wound up getting the 180 dual core and so far i think i made the bast choice. i just got the chip today and so far im running it at 230x12 2761mhz using the chips defualt v-core of 1.31v! None of my previous X2 chips would run this None! so i vote optie 180... good luck man.

wait a little for the opteron 185
i dont think the 185 is going to be around that soon man. the 4800x2 and the 180 are the top right now. where are you seeing info on the 185 wouldnt there also be a x2 counter part as will?

The 180...
yeah go the 180 man i just got mine tonight and this is my results so far. i think this chip has alot more in it too. also ive had the 3800x2 the 4400x2 and the 4600x2 and none of them would run this at these volts....

No, u don't have a complete answer, get a RETAIL 180 (if you can find one), chances are you'll get lucky and get a ccbwe 0530 :) Then u can tell us about it and make him post results.

Never buy High end CPus Oem..
this cpu i got is a 0530TPMW OEM i wouldnt waste the money for a heat sink you probly wont use. either way man oem or retail you wont be sorry.
btw: make who post results?
at nstep: why not?

Because of the warrenty and the fact that OEM chips are more likely to be defective

who = his friend, he said he was building it for his friend. I ususally just buy retail in case I need the warranty. In his case I suggested it because it would give him a good chance of getting a good stepping, but yeah, the warranty part is nice if your not gonna strip it naked.
i agree 100% and iusaly buy retail but i dont let that get in my way ill buy oem if i have a good feeling about the cpu. kinda like this 180 i got it was oem but i had already known the stepping and a little history about it...
