View Full Version : NF4-D 3 leds
Hello.
Today I got my DFI Nf4-D and my Opteron144.
I pluged all in and connected all four power cables!
I fired up the board via the onboard button and got three red lights.
I looked up the forums and used the search funtion, but that didn't help me.
What I did:
CMOS-Clear und remove Battery for about 40minutes.
Put One single Ram in the orange slot farest away from the CPU.
In fact I tried both sticks with every slot...
Used the safe Mode Jumper with every Ram in every Slot!
Anyone can please help me out?
I have 2x256 Kingston HyperX3000 with BH-5 a DFI NF4-D and an Opteron144 Cabne 0540 APMW

Well 3 leds is cpu detected, but no ram. Only thing I can suggest is try playing around with sticks in different slots (but it sounds like you've done that), do you have different ram to try?

Does the board and the lights stay on at 3 red leds or does it shut down? If it shuts down at the 3 red leds, it might mean your heatsink isn't seated properly on your cpu, causing it to overheat and shut down. If thats not the problem, try unplugging the cord for the extra vdimm. If I remember correctly, you're supposed to make some changes in bios and then plug it in. Hope this helps.

-> I'm not having different Ram. I could lend some pc2100 Sticks from a friend's tomorrow. Maybe they work?

-> The 3 leeds keep there. Board doesn't shut down. Currently I'm only having an Arctic Cooling Cooler because I first wanted to test the board before I mount the waterblocks. Which cord do you mean?

If they stay on then its definatly your ram. The 'cord' he means is the 4v vdimm jumper i think, do you have it in the 4V position? You need to first boot in the 3.3V line position and then select a vcore other than stock.
You could have a go with the 2100 stuff, as long as its 184pin DDR it couldnt hurt.
Edit:typo
It's in 3,3V (default)
Can't select 4V due to 20Pin PSU.
I will have a try with the special mod to get 3,3V rail - 0,1V.
Maybe that helps me to boot up the system...
Will be right back.

I doubt that will help. I have kingston BH5 as well, used it in my system just today to eliminate possible causes of failing to boot, after a while it worked just fine, with default settings, so I dont think the 3.3v mod would help.
Have you tried each stick individualy in each slot?
If you just got your board it will have an old bios on it, one that might have a problem with opterons, anyway you could get hold of a different cpu to test.....I know the leds suggest that its ram, but still the cpu is a possiblility.

Had nealry the same Problem here today. Ballistix won`t do in no slot. So i picked Old Samsung ddr333 Ram and i couldn't believe it it works. Changed timings in bios -> Balistix work too. Hope this helps a little bit.
Thanks for your help.
I will test some other Ram today and if it won't help i bring my bios Chip to a friend, who should flash me a new one.
Got same NoName DDR400 Ram and some Infineon. Still no boot!
RMA the board and hope for a better one?

Flib, unfortunately if your PSU only has 20 pins, this might be the problem. Yes It may be an Antec with modded rails (what did you do?) and 480W but it may be the prob.
I'm a bit consfused as to what you've tried with the RAM. As explained in the DFI-street forums, the first thing you should try with the RAM is a single stick in slot 2.
Also remember to clear CMOS between attempts.
You might also want to try the extra long clear mentioned in DFI-street (removing battery etc)

Guys this is the classic cold boot problem some DFI boards suffer from.
What you need to do is boot with soem other memory set the voltage and timings manually to BH5 settings (2-2-2-5 etc...) and 3.0v plus Vdimm save to CMOS. Then swap the sticks to your BH5 and boot it up.
Simple.

Simple.
Simple if it booted with other ram.....he just said it didnt :stick:
Yes it didn't boot with other ram. (NoName DDR400)
vDimm is only 2,53V on bootup. Guess that is not enough.
I tried every slot and also did an overnight CMOs clear for 10hours. Removed the battery for 10hours, so total of 20 hours CMOS clear!
I phoned the seller and they said, they will look after the board and flash a new Bios if the Board is working.

Have you tried putting one stick of RAM in the orange RAM slot furthest away from the CPU. Reset your CMOS. Hold the INSERT key on your keyboard, and then turn on your PC.
Give this a go, worked for me after I replaced Venice -> Opteron 144, and Opteron 144 -> Opteron 146 it did this.. right pain.

See Cold boot simple as!!
I returned the board to them and they will see if the Board is working.
If it is they will flash me a new Bios.
