hi there
i have a galaxy 6800 that worked fine but now has stopped working and bios screen wont even show,
i have looked at the card and i can see a chip on the back with 4 pins on it and a solid bar on the top that i think may be a power regulator or somthing like that and it has melted on one end.
i bought this card from company and they told me that they only gaurantee that its working when i bought it and that i have to contact galaxy direct and i have been trying but to no avail, and i cant seem to find the part anywhere to buy and replce it so that i can get the card working,i wondered being that you all seem to be very knowledgable at modifying cards whether any of you would be able to repair it or tell me how to wire it up to bypass this faulty chip.
thanks any help would be appreciated as i cant afford to replace this card as i am now medically retired but i do feel that it could be fixed as thats the only part that seems to be broken on it no burning marks on it either just this chips thats blown{has a melted peice onit that has raised up and got a small hole in it now}.
thanks for reading this thread and hopeing that someone may be able to help me.
yoursfaithfully

Hi,
You have already solved to prolem by yourself almost completely :)

The same kind of problems have been posted here before, like here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75029
.. and therefore I'd like to ask, whether you had Vcore modded (what Vcore voltage you had before it happened) ? I have measured temperature of components of 6800-card:
http://img312.imageshack.us/img312/8853/msiv1m2temp18ul.th.jpg (http://img312.imageshack.us/my.php?image=msiv1m2temp18ul.jpg)
.. and the component burn in your card is running HOT, indeed !!

If I had problem like you I'll contact sales of 'Renesas'
http://www.renesas.com
.. and ask for samples ;) ...If refused ask quotation.
Another alternative would be to find an alternative i.e. component having electrical properties similar enough.

hi there
thanks for your reply
i havent voltage modded it or anything, but i did have a powersupply that gave up in a puff of smoke lol, so i think my system must have had a powerspike as thats the only reason that i can think of for it packing up.
i will try renesas web site you have given me and see whether i can wangle any bits out of them as it should have gave up just like that should it.
I bought the card from a local computer shop that does not now exist so i cant get a replacement and i have tried to contact galaxy and no answer from them either lo.
so i decided to try this forum as i was recommend it by a friend and i must say i am impressed.
the shop i bought the card from said it was able to have the pipelines unlocked without any problems and that it was capable of a good overclock but i hadnt tried anything on it yet as i wanted to make sure it was standard till the waranty ran out ,which sinse i have found doesnt exist anymore so waiting for waranty to expire was a waste of time lol.
i am hoping to get the card running again and have since changed the case and added loads of fans as i think the system was running to hot.
now my comp case temp is around 20 now which is way lower than it was so i have a feeling the high case temps i had didnt help.
thanks again and any other ideas for how to find the part would be appreciated thanks again

i beleive the problem lies with the ice coolers as there is no air circulating around the mosfets and they produce 21w+ of heat so if there was not enough air circulating around the mosfets then they are bound to burn out sooner or later.
when and if i can get hold of the items then i will also be fitting heatsinks onto them and also make sure there is enough cool air blowing onto them to keep them cool as the ice cooler doesnt blow any air around the rest of the card to keep everything else cool.
i have since changed the case and have fitted a 120mm and an 80 mm fan at the front to blow cool air over the rest of the card which im hoping will keep the mosfets cool when and if i can get the parts i need.

Was wondering if anyone has been able to find a source for these chips, I can't get them directly from Renesas and all UK stockest are out of them for the next 12 weeks or so! anyone able to help?
PS also, if anyone has a source of the IRF7832 chips that sit along side of it thoes would be greatly appreciated too :)
