Hey guys I've been have a rough time trying to figure out whats going on with this. I've got a X2 4400+ with a stock LS, when left at idle for an extended period of time I get BSOD when logging on. Everything tests fine with prime, super Pi, memtest, and benchmarks once in windows but when temps are at the coldest I get memory errors. Is it possible that the cold bug would kick in it at -25c ?

I've tried everything I can think of, drive stenghts, tref, Vdimm, different multi's. I've reloded all the drivers, removed all the pci cards, etc.

See sig for rig specs

Yeah, it's definitely possible.

I think it's about time you start D2OLing to keep that CPU loaded ;)

Well that is defiently an option :D

xs_thecollective would like to add your distinctiveness to ours and have you on our team. PM me if interested. It would keep your cold bug from kicking in.

Just another thought popped into my mind and I'm sure someone will dismiss it but I haven't heard of anyone's results of ColdBug, then removing the Spreader, and what happens then. Wondering about cold effects on their TIM/contact @ that temp

I vote cold bug! With my ADV4400XXXXXX I'm seeing the cold bug @ around -32 - -35C. At those temps, I can't get the memory to run >260Mhz. I ran spi1m @ 3.1 @ 1.5V (most likely could do it @ 1.4, but the couldn't boot @ those temps and that memory speed), but had to use a divider to get my memory speeds below 250.......

:(

Now testing at 295x10 with 166 divider so ram is at 245 and all seems ok so far. I've just never had a chip that had any problems with my stock LS and didn't think people saw cold issues until -40c or lower.

I know for a fact its temp related, just hate the idea of using the stock cooler in order to get this rig stable. LOL

Man...sorry to hear.....Here's another thing you can try - Drop the mult. down to 10.5. This should allow for slightly higher memory speeds ;) . BTW, what's the stepping on the cpu?

EDIT: Oops...just saw that you were running the x10 already so try x9.5 :p:

Ive tried everything !! lol

Won't even work at default settings, actually is worse. I'm pulling it apart after work and going from there. It may be condensation on the backside of the baord but is unlikely.

peace perc,

Nothing wrong with the chip, just doesn't like the cold ! lol

It may not be the chip anyway, going to check things out tonight it could be something else. I'm going to put the X2 in my Daughters comp and put her A64 3400+ Claw under the ls to begin with just to eliminate most of the possiblities other than cold bug.

I have a 4000+ SD that bugs on 404. Under 134 it's fine though.

Ok, got home took out the Ballistix and put in 2x1gig G.Skill TCCD, Cmos reset and all is good now. Not sure yet if the Ballistix are bad, the CMOS reset did it, or the X2 has problems with 2x1gig sticks and the cold.

I'll update in a few.
