Yes, I'm sorry to create the 900th topic about IHS removing this week, but I'd really like some help.
AFAIK, the IHS contact on my 146 0536 GPMW is awful. I get 37c idle and 56-59c load on 1.55v, temps, oddly enough, DONT change going from 1.4 to 1.6v, I have no idea why.
I read somewhere that someone took off their IHS and remounted their BT and got a 9c load drop. He also happened to have an 0536 GPMW.
I'd REALLY like to remove the IHS, and I wont have contact issues because it uses screws. I've never done it before, so if some experienced IHS removers could direct me to a good blade to use, as well as some advice (how far in I should cut, where to start on the cpu, etc etc), I would appreciate it beyond belief, as I'd really like to not kill a $230 cpu. =)
Thanks a bunch guys :toast:

I have the exact same chip as you.
I did not remove the IHS, but I did remount the HSF.
It seemed to help a lot by 8-9 degrees C, but its probably because I didn't apply AS5 correctly the first time, though.

When I took the ihs off my 146 I noticed that it had TERRIBLE contact with the core. I never even installed it with the ihs on. I could see that it had bad contact by looking at the goop on the core and seeing a big bubble that coverend half the core.
Does DamienKC mean you live in KC? If so, I'll be moving there in a couple weeks and I've done the removal twice so I could help if you want. You can get the blades at Walgreens. They're the old-timer shaving razors next to the rest of the razor blade replacements, generic walgreens brand. They are so thin, sometimes they stick together and it's hard to tell. I removed one ihs with two blades stuck together not knowing it the whole time. It still worked, they are so thin.

Yep I live in Olathe, KS to be exact. I'll give it a shot myself and if I have some trouble I'll definitely be throwing you a PM. Where will you be moving exactly? Thanks for telling me where and what kind of razors I should get, that was definitely helpful.

You live around here as well?
Well I attempted this earlier. I didn't get any progress because I'm too 'scared' to actually use force. I taped off 2mm but not even 2mm would cut though, I couldn't cut through no matter what. I decided to just stop and remount. Remounting got me a 4c idle drop and a 6c load drop though, hahaha
