View Full Version : yes or no... need to decide today
Should I pick up this a dual core opteron 165? $290 at monarch computer. i have a 3700+sd right now, but its pretty crappy, hits a brick wall at 2.7GHz. if I get the 165 I would like it to at least hit 2.6. yes or no. thanks.

/me shakes magic 8 ball.
My magic 8 ball said "yes".
No, they are too unproven. It is a 1.8 GHz chip, if you must reach more than 2.7 that's not going to work with a high enough probability.

he said he wanted to hit 2.6 with the the dual core.. I think that's pretty doable.. but there is -always- risk in all of these "buy to OC" cpu purchases... but many are hitting 2.8 with these.. check the dual core opty OCing thread..
check the dual core opty OCing thread..
I don't see that. Where is it?

I say if you have the money go for it. If not just wait it out until you have the funs :D
ordered. hope this turns out well... :poke: my first amd cpu (3700+sd) was a really bad OCer.
I am in the same boat as you are. My 3700SD is a dud. It only does 2.7GHz at 1.67v. The difference is, i didn't think twice and went ahead with 165 Opty. It'll be here by the end of the week.
Mine should be here either thursday or friday this week. I used FedEx Express Saver shipping.

 Just make sure you come back and tell us how your dualy does.
I will. Somehow I have a feeling that I will get a bad OCer, but mabey thats just because my 3700SD was and I'm used to it....please pray for me :)
