WINXP tweaks and such

All,
I thought I'd scrub my HD and re-install everything. I installed it all and went in and did regedit mods, service.msc mods, performance layout mods and some othjer pretty serious stuff.
So I put it all back together expecting some high 19,xxx action and VOILA!!!!
Terrrible scores, instability....grrrrr.........frustration.
Time to start from scratch.

Nothing worse than doing all that work, savoiring the moment for that 1st run on 3dMark,,and boom, it sucks.

Why spend all this money and time to score higher on a program?is it just bragging rights? I mean i have a descent system that scores around 14k on the program, and all i use it for is so that i know my system is stable...

If someone can clarify this to me itll be great...If it was gaming its a different story :)

9700pro sucks ass in Counter-strike but every other game rocks:)

Then you'll love this, I use my 3.4Ghz rig for benching only! I play games on x-box and I surf internet and do work-stuff on a PIII/450. Yeah, it's a 19k 3dmark paperweight, hehehehehehehe.

Something really sucks...
Even at cpu/mobo default settings, stock speeds, etc. if my r9700 is NOT overclocked! Almost always it just freezes and locks up 1 or 2 seconds after the first test starts????????????????
I eliminated 1 problem, catalyst 3.0 and the new control panel suck! So I re-installed 2.5 (6218) and the old control panel???
My r9700 is modded to 1.6v, can this make it whacky unstable?
Just last week it produced 19k++ results.
Then I decided to give it a clean WINXP install...mistake. I've reinstalled it twice, and it's still a headache!

We can ask you the same question:

Why do you spend that much money just to play computer games ? :p How does that benefit you ?


It's simple. Benching 3DMark entertains us the same way playing games entertains you. It's called "hobby".

charlie, check out stuff like certain ram timings, AGP aperture, Fast Write......also, when you get a good Windows install, ALWAYS use Ghost to save that image ;)

there is no "point" in what we do. I mean we buy the biggest baddest components then we overclock the hell out of them and we use all that power for absolutely nothing. There are no programs that really need it and the biggest contribution is folding. That is if our xtreme cooling can be turned on long enough to fold.

MAn gotta LOVE it. Its straight out fun and thats it. 3dmark is just a standard of seeing how bad ass ur system is. Its a competition as well just to make things more interesting. Trying to push ur machinery to the limit.

well i guess, i have my comp for hw, i use to be a pro gamer and played for cal invite...(counter-strike), so thats why i have a ok comp but other than that bleh :), well if you guys were this motivated about cars ... that would be lovely
