I recently installed several extensions for firefox and all I can say is wow. I don't get any more spyware or popups. Some extensions aren't security related, but can definitly improve your experience.

Aardvark: Allows you to modify the page. For example, if theres a banner you don't want, right click the page, start aardvark, mouse over the ad and press R. GONE

NoScript: Allows you to specify which sites can run javascript. This immensly prevents spyware as javascript is now on an allow only basis. This prevents ad's as well.

Adblock: Allows you to block ad's by inputting the domains of the sites the ad's are coming from. Example, input www.avsads.com and no more ads from that site. You won't be able to visit that site as well. It essentially blocks all traffic from that site. Its very useful in blocking spyware. For example, if you look to see most of your spyware is cookies for www.doubleclick.net, just block that site using adblock and no more spyware :).

IE View: As we all know, certain pages just won't work in firefox. Instead of opening up IE and copying and pasting the url, you can just right click the page and select view in IE. It also allows you to select "Always view this page in IE"

PDF Download: Gives you the option of whether you wan't to open the PDF in firefox, or save to the computer and open it later.

Fasterfox: Performance and network tweaks for Firefox.

Tabbrowser Preferences: Gives more control to tabbed browsing. For example, you can select to open new pages as tabes rather than new windows.

Customize Google: Gives you numerous options pertaining to google. Example, remove ads, show links to other search engines, and give a list of searches with the current letters typed (example type "sta" into the box and it shows the top ten searches with the first letters "sta". Ex: staples, starbucks stanford etc.)

The absolute essential ones are NoScript, Adblock, and IE View. All the extensions can be got from https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox .

Enjoy!

"Flashblock" - I don't mind gif that much, but flash is evil. Worst, a fancy flash graphics can pull 100% CPU, which goes on power consumption and heat. Might also be able to read and write stuff on my computer (not verified myself).

"Undo close tab".

"Mozex" to use my editor of choice instead of the form text input (using emacs for that).

"downthemall" http://downthemall.mozdev.org/ handy on *ahem* graphics sites, allows you to download all files from a webpage with one click.

http://karmatics.com/aardvark/ I dunno if i'd like it, adblock does basically the same thing.

IE View is awesome
as is PDFDownloader and FasterFox

I also use Fireftp, but it is slightly buggy, i usually end up firing up SmartFTP.

I didn't see "bug me not". It's an extension that addresses the "do I really need to create an account? " thing. Just right click on the login field and bug me not :pimp:
I added "http://ad*" to the blocked items list. That takes care of most banners.
You should try the tabbrowsing extension of this site:
http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.en
It's highly customizable, undo close tab is already included.
And those who are bored by the internet should try stumble upon. That one is too hard to explain for me (as you can see: bad english :slap: ) so see yourself :)
I just browsed the most popular firefox extensions and here is the last popular firefox extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Popular&numpg=10&id=352). I think it definately needs more popularity :ROTF:

If you use adblock, use this extension as well : https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Miscellaneous&numpg=10&id=1136
It integrates most ad's in adblock, so that means less clicking work for you!

What do you mean "firefox doesn't have ftp"? It can easily open FTP urls :)
