I seem to be getting excessive condensation on the suction side of the system. Pic....

Any ideas what this is. I'm using 6ft of 0.031 cap tube. The temp of the head(ill post more pics later) is there at -13c and dropping. that was after 15 minutes of run time w/66% coolant-33% water in resivoir. No load.

I guess is this the condenser issue in the wrong postion? Wrong cap tube length?

Thanks,
RussC

I wouldn't run the unit too much like that, the compressor will die sooner or later.
As for the frosting, well I can't comment on cap tube length, I have never played with it, I prefer tev.

Have you put a load on the system? and what spec/dimension is the evap?

edit, and sort that condenser out :D

no load, actually, theres a partial load, the pump is in the resevoir, so I'd say ~40W there.

The evap is 16' of 1/4" copper wound up in the resevoir.

Hi,

I've just started testing my first chilller unit. I've found that the unloaded unsubmersed coil temperature isn't much indication of how the system will perform. The frosting back to the compressor will disappear as soon as you load the beast.

Also, you cannot see how 'good' the cap tube length is until you apply your load. It is finding the balance of lower temp vs capacity.

I'm look around for an expansion valve, having the redo the system to adjust the cap tube length is a pain.

Good tidy setup RussC.

Well,
Ive put a 150W load on the head, and it still frost badly on the suction side. I put more and less refrigerant in the system to see if that would do anything, but it didn't. I'll post the pics tomorrow.
