Hej, this is the right forum for this sort of thing, after all its D2OL members that run DX rigs. A rather bizzare thing happened to me today. I took the BH5 I run in my dx rig to test with my rather terrible opteron and nf4.
Now when I replaced the RAM, (tested, working on NF4 afterwards again), not only does the PC-DL not boot up, the "incompatible CPU" led briefly flashes and I'm met with repetitive long beeps. These beeps just continue on for all of eternity as far as I can tell.
Anybody have a clue what could have possibly went wrong? There was no other manipulation with the rig :(

It doesnt boot at stock spd at 2.6v purhaps? Try putting in some other ram setting timings manually and giving it a go

Its a vmodded board ;)
What irratates me is that it worked untill the ram loan out without ANY issues whatsoever  Now its playing with me... I cant change timings because I do not get it to post at all :(

hhhmmm that little red light coming on suggests that one of the u-wires isn't making good contact so the cpus aren't getting the same voltage. I ran into that same problem when I was building my DXs. Had one up and running shut it down and on restart had that same red light issue. Re-did the u-wires and haven't had a problem since.

(It's probably the U-wire mod)... 3 things I would try first that are a lot easier, quick, and just might work; Reseat the ram... be ruff... It's down with the dirty stuff :hehe:
Move the FSB jumpers back to stock
Clear the BIOS
Also... did you take precautions to keep your mobo from shorting out on the backside??? The mounting hole for the CPU cooler. :fact:
If all this stuff checks out and didn't solve the problem... then chances are you have a bad u-wire mod. :fact:

David i am sorry your having problems.....i personaly have never had a problem with the u-wires they have never come loose for me.... as the great rod said i would try reseting the jumpers for the fsb and if that doesn't work disconnect ps and all that and clear bios and leave the power off for 5-10 mins. to discharge the power in the mobo.as a last resort i would take the cpu's out to check the u-wires.

I found that if the u-wire is too short it can lose contact after a restart or two.
I always learn stuff the hard way. Like how to clean up a spill in a watercooled case

i know for a fact that none of my wires are short most of them are too long....... no offense to anybody but i did the u-wires and had a hard time getting them shorter....

You did the u-wires for that build? Then I doubt there is a problem there.
And none taken. It was a very delicate process but I did manage to get a few too short. I had no experience with them before so it was all new. But fun none-the-less. :)

I don't think they are short... but they sometimes break if the pin crimps the u-wire and rubs on the thin u-wire.
I've had this happen a couple times (even with copper wire)... It just happens. You are trying to fit a cpu pin and another wire in a hole only designed for a cpu pin... it's like putting a square peg in a round hole. Push hard enough and it will fit :D

Thank you for the input :toast:
I'll go ahead in the order rod mentioned, shame that I have to gut the machine again :p: At least I'll watercool it now.
I realised when I first booted the machine, John had it running at 14*200, I'm running at 16*200 - perhaps a long shot but it could have had an impact.

If those are c1 stepping 1.6LVs like I suspect, there is not much chance of getting to 16*200. Go back to 14*200, unless I misread what you have done since removing the ram....
Best of luck, broken rigs suck.

These are d1s - I primed at 16*200 before, max SP1M stable was 3440mhz.
This rig is like a hexed machine for me, these little things...

yes they are d1's
