I am thinking about getting a different CPU. Basically from a 4400+ X2 to a single core opteron. Mobo, RAM and everything stays the same. do I have to re-install windows and everything?

I swap CPU's all the time and have never had to re-install the O/S to get it to function fine. :)

dual core to single core -> yes, only way to force use of the single proc HAL
single to dual -> no, updated automatically by Windows during first load
