Done playing with window AC unit. Getting componets togather for my custom liquid chiller My question is whats the best size for the res? Most pictures of chiller units I see the resivors look to be fairly small. Would a one gallon res be to large or small.

The bigger, the longer to cool down. But if you use a thermostat, when the whole liquid is chilled it would last longer than a smaller one. A too big reservoir isn't such a great idea because of the time needed to get it cold.

From what I have read, between 1-2 gallons provides the best trade off of pull down/ hold down.

Was leaning towards 2 gallon res with thermostat so it can be left on 24 7.
Getting a 1/3 hp mat$hita compressor and heres pic. of condensor

Have to decide on what CFM fan to get.

Bigger isn't necesarily better its about surface area of the heat transfer. I usually size my resevoir to the size of my heat exchanger. This can be 1-3 gallons. Since I submerge the heat exchanger I need a larger well-insulated res. The compressor runs very little once the system is at temp say -20 C usually about 15 minutes after the first plug in. The chiller can be left on to maintain whatever temp you want. I only cycle the pump on and off with the cpu. :spill:
