Gigabyte has today announced the first in a series of motherboards aimed at computer enthusiasts and overclockers looking to get the most out of their system. They're kicking things off with a board based around Intel's 975X Express chipset.
The G1975 also incorporates on-board surround sound. That's no surprise, of course, but what is interesting is the use of a 24-bit Creative chip, rather than good old AC'97 or Intel Hi-def audio.

The board looks cool , also has a new turbojet technology [creative thinking]

Only the Reviews will make it clear how this motherboard can overclock.
I still feel DFI Rules when it comes to overclocking.
The Creative chip on the gigabyte is a nice pluspoint it will reduce the cpu utilization for onboard sound card users.

unless they added some special things to the mobo design itsself like thicker traces for the DIMM lines so we can supply more volts, a good lay out in general for the VGA cards and NB-CPU layout i don' t forsee a whole lot of extra overclocking. The 2 small windtunnels don't move THAT much air thanks to those small fans so...
they'll have to do better then install 2 fans on their mobo to please the overclocking community

^^ exactly + sound is going to be and issue with those smalls fans and besides this has been done already by abit and fatality.... still the dfi is on top, i think if you are an OCer you know your case air flow is very important and that is better than 2 little fans and a wind tunnel
Entity_Razer
11-01-2005, 06:55 AM
indeed? A single 120mm PAPST fan as intake and a 80mm Panaflo or enermax outtake will beat these 2 fans around like play-toy's
Not only do these fans have a large deadzone (large engine, but small fanblades=large deadzone) but their sound is as said above me much higher. They sound a lot sharper/higher due to their small fan blades, higher rotation and just poor design in general.....
Abit and fatality did this to sell, it failed, now Gigabyte will do this, the tric will fail again if they don't actually make adjustments to the mobo itsself besides sticking fans to it.
DFI is still king of the castle as far as I'm concerned.... (now if they'd only make a Dual Xeon DFI mobo :slobber: )
Woot 7h3 Turbojetzorz for teh uberl33t overcloxorz :woot:
j/k
Looks pretty sweet...interesting design...nice :_
40 mm fans should be BANNED!! Except in 1U's.
Anything smaller than 80 mm is a joke, there's simply no reason to use them.

I guess mobo`s manufacturers make any type of improovements to make Intel chip cooler :p:

Lol, never trust reviews on overclocking, only look at what people on here say when overclocking it.
Link dont work for me Cooper.
Crossfire + intel = crazy clockspeeds :D

You know theyre going to ship more though as people will look at this and then another and sy "that looks a lot better". The kind of people we are, where every little bit counts are few and far between.
No &^&^&&# way I'll ever buy a board with mandatory integrated small fans.

Gigabyte has made some good motherboards for socket 754, including the K8NS Pro NF3 that I was really impressed with, once you did a few volt mods for more Vcore.
Vdimm was done just fine with the OCZ DDR booster.
it was a damn fine combo for the time.
Gigabyte has shown that they can make some damn fine overclocking boards, but they always have 1 huge drawback, thier voltage selection is always really low.
like 2.9 volts for ram, and 1.65 volts for CPU and little else.
if they stopped doing that, they would have some damn good boards right out of the box.
plus, when it comes to intel, Seems Asus is about all there is...
no other company really seems to be able to put out a good solid Intel board.
if Gigabyte put just alittle effort into that market, I am sure they would do good.
theres plenty of room in the Intel market for a alternative to Asus boards ;)

err..... thats 4 fans, 2 fans each tube,i have some 60MM fans blow more air than 80MM fans
[XC] leviathan18
11-01-2005, 06:19 PM
perhaps there are some 60mm fans that can blow more than some 80mm fans but how low they are.... it doesnt matter if there are 2 40mm fanes per wind tunnel the best ive seen from a 40mm fan is something like 5cfm so that is not that much..
i think if you put a nice 120mm over that zone you will have better temps
saaya
11-01-2005, 06:20 PM
the ecs has one fan, the gigabyte has 4 fans! :woot:
seriously though, those tiny fans barely move air, and if they spin fast enough to do so they are really noisy.
the gigabyte looks better than the esc imo.
it both looks kinda crappy though, cheap plastic crap stuck to a mobo to make it look cool...
charles, unless your board has an uli soutbridge with extra pciE lanes it only has 16 lanes for both cards.

i975 WILL support Presler...but I believe Conroe will need a seperate socket. Not too certain on this.

Importance: High
Yes! It's correct!
Both of our PCI-E slots on PF22 are PCI-E x16 not x4.
Some of other competitors are using x4 slot to do the Crossfire instead of pure x16 slot.
This was from a sales person, I have an engineers contact and waiting on their response.

On 955x the P5WD2 uses a 4x PCIe slot that passes data across the south bridge.

IMO the only good thing about i975 is capability for SLI/CrossFire with two PCI-E 8x.
But it won`t support Conroe until next revision of chipset.

Are you absolutly sure about that? I had heard that it would be compatible on most boards including i955X. The only issue about Conroe was VT which only the i975X boards support apparentally

Good thing is that this chipset can support Yonah/Merom cos they are pin-to-pin compatible. And i`ve read somewhere that ECS will make such mobo.

Meh, don't really see the big deal about dual x8 PCIe or for that matter dual x16 PCIe as there isn't any software out now nor will there be for probably a couple of years that makes use of all that extra bandwidth by which time everyone here will probably have already upgraded thier motherboard at least once (probably more like 3 or 4 times :p: )....

you know what gigabyte has become..?
they are the scion of the motherboard manufactures. You may wonder why I made that comparison, so I will explain.
Scion is about the only car company in existence that is geared by default for moronic ricers who think that pretty neon lights and shiney things will make his car perform better.
Now look at that gigabyte board. 1000 dollars says it wont ever hold a candle to the DFI nf4... But guess what? It has big glowing fans and what can only be described as plastic turbine engines!
So for anyone who is even considering buying this board, I URGE you to buy 20 of them. Why 20? Well you can strap 19 of them to your Scion sC and maybe, just maybe, those plethora of blue, glowing, turbines might make your car go faster.. If it doesnt, you will still look cool doing it
So maybe i just hate gigabyte, or they have quite possibly lost their minds? You decide.
speed bump
11-08-2005, 09:14 AM
Well sure it can hold a candle to the DFI NF4 just try putting a LGA cpu and DDR2 in both of them the DFI won't even get started.
Just curious are they going to force me to buy this new 975 chipset or can I buy a 6x1 CPU and use it on a 955x platform?

" platform refresh " is code for 975X with 1.33ghz FSB support, Conroe and Memron use the same FSB arch as Cedar Mill and Presler, just at 1.33ghz speeds, Cedar Mill will be using bi-independent FSB's as well, but my guess is that support for bi independent bus's are already present in 975X A. Conroe and Memron will work in 975X, 955X and 945 for that matter, but not how Intel would want them to work.

If they put DFI rules in their mobos its a very good news but I definitely don't like their "turbojet" inovation :slapass: :slapass: ...
Want a mobo with giga graphic perfs and DFI rules for vcore and vdimm, that's all I need (and perhaps ATI chipset to avoid cold bug  ) ..

I've got the KN1 Extreme which has that little fan ducting around the PWM area. The fan actually blows quite a bit of air for it's size but it's Not a replaceable fan and it's not ball bearing so it's a matter of time before it fails and I have to replace the whole ECS board in my X2 system.
But it was $99 in august has room for 6 IDE and 6 SATA drives plus dual lan.
