Nice Work!!! :toast:

Looks great indeed! Is this cylindrical style evaps cheaper to CNC on the lathe than otherwise, that why many people use this kind of design?

Not really Johann. Small quantity runs do cost more due to tooling setup cost. Block costs doesn't become really economically feasable till about 50s or 100 orders imo.

how tight is the fit between the core and the pipe?

heres a question for ya ^_^

after looking at it for a bit I see the concept you going with.

my question is are you putting the "inlet" starting at the top or bottom?
I ask because at first I figured you would put it at the top, it would run down but how would you get the evap stuff out?
but if you put it at the bottom the evaped stuff would flow upward wouldnt it?

lol, alright and heres a question for me being new, in water cooling you use water to cool, what do you run through the block to cool in phase change? is it the refrigerant like r-22 or is it the oil?

Haar

U got me there.. dont know if its the top or bottom ill just do what I see others doo. Im a noob in this. it is the refrigerant that run through.

Maby like this from the bottom.

Most stepper designers seems to prefer bottom inlet top suction. It kind of make sense as you want most evaporation to happen at bottom 1 or 2 plates.

Gimmpy224
11-01-2005, 07:42 AM
yea thats what I was thinkin.
but it didnt look like there was a spot for top suction or a hole for the inlet to run to the bottom.

but I guess you could stick it to the side of it, but wouldnt that like leak the refridgerant?

The base might be a bit too thick, but you'll find out soon enough...
Nontheless, nice design :)

I'd suggest replacing the safety clip with an inox one
This way you' ll avoid rusting from moisture
I've been using this way for mounting my evaps to the enclosures for over a year and i had this rusting problem when i used the same clip you are using

Looking good :toast:

What material is that holddown plate made of?

And something that might be a good idea for next time,
the white piece of pipe along the evap could be made higher
so that is sticks out on top.
Then you can stick the armaflex in there and tape it up
for a airtight seal.
I hope i made sense :D

I made a drawing, because even I didn't understand what I was trying to say ;)

Looks great!

One thing, the evap is in direct contact with the holddown, do you not think condensation will form there?

GuuZ
04-20-2006, 01:35 AM
depends on what material the holddown is made off I think

Jack
04-20-2006, 01:36 AM
Jan (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76239) is using a similar design and isn't experiencing any problems :)

Haar
04-20-2006, 01:40 AM
Jack I was thinking of making an new one just like what u show.
Holddown is plexi glass. :(

Jack
04-20-2006, 01:47 AM
Since the plexi isn't touching the evap directly, i might work just fine...
Depends a little on how good the white pipe insulates. Test it :)

johann
04-20-2006, 02:08 AM
If you look at jan's design, the evap does not make contact with the white pipe at the top, there is a gap, the only contact is on the bottom where the plastic ring press down on the evap ring.

Bets way is too test it :)
