which is better for a gaming and media computer, home or professional? What features does professional have extra?

Google is your friend. There is no 'performance' difference, they perform the same...

Thank god not, ME is the worst piece of :banana::banana::banana: ever. Home and professional are both based on Windows 2000. The professional version gives you a little more functionallity and control but they are quite the same. I used to have XP professional but there isn't a big difference. I run server 2003 Enterprice now, and hell it was expensive :D

No

The main difference between home and Pro (that most people care about) is that Pro has extra networking options available.

don't forget about multi monitors, encrypting file system, multi processors (not multi-core), multi language support on the fly (English/Francais for me) and remote desktop. There are other useful functions in Pro vs Home, but those are the ones that make my life better vs the home edition....

pretty sure Home and Pro support the same number of physical processors, 2.

You're correct, Home supports one socket, and Pro supports two. I was wrong. :stick:

Thanks a lot, this helped me too :D . My computer is not networked or anything. It's main puurpose is for gaming, and I might put in a dual core AMD64 X2. If I understood the meaning right, I should go with XP Home correct, since I can get it for ~$60 less?

If you don't need anything that XP Pro provides, why bother? Home still allows access to the net etc.. it's not exactly crippled :). yes home does support the x2 CPU's because it is still just one socket
