Hi all, quick question that i need a quick awnser to before i buy!

Anyone used the P5WD2 premium with 4 X 512 8000UL? i have this board running my 660 at 330 fsb 4.3.3.4 2.2v on water but would like to get another gig of the same memory so have 2 gig 4 X 512.

thing is, will restrict my overclock if i pop in another 2 sticks? i dont want to spend that kinda money if it gives problems running 4 sticks of mem in the board. anyone running 4 X 512 of any kinda memory in the P5WD2?

any issue's?

cheers! matt

Have you put the 8000UL's in yet?

Anyway, I have 4x 5400UL's (which I believe are basically the same chips) in my P5WD2 with my 670 @ 14x370 4:5 cas 4-3-3-4 24/7 They will also do 1:1 @ 3-2-2-4.

Basically I believe you're primarily going to be held back by your cpu overclock and not the memory nor the motherboard.

True statement Larsk.

It isn't enough? At the moment I've got two sticks of 256mb kingston value PC2700 bh6 in my main gaming rig. okok, it's not enough, alt-tab out of cs:s and I might as well ctrl+alt+del and quit it for the time it takes to get back in...(got a gig of bh5s on its way :D :P).

Anyways, I've heard good things about the Corsair UL sticks, some Micron stuff in them I believe.

Why would 2GB allow you to get the timings tighter?

Hi all

and sorry! sayya It was just a generalization! ( guess you mean me with and all ) :)

well my other 2 sticks of 8000ul have yet to arrive, but i have a tracking number for a tuesday arrival!

soon as they are inplace i will let everyone know if anything changes! Iam hopeing nothing changes and that my system operates as it does now.

what i am looking for is a smoother system with more ram and smoother gameplay!

Mind you i have just bought me a copy of my favorite game of all time FF7 on the PC :woot:

I hope i dont get slow down :) I must say this is a great forum for information and its looks like a promie could be next on my list. mmm but i like silent water, oh decisions decisions lol

Hopefully you got the Ultima edition because the regular version is a HUGE pain to get running.

well ive fitted the other gig of 8000ul and everything is running just the same! which iam pleased about. so there you go no problems with 2 gig of ram useing all 4 slots 4 X 512

now to give Q4 a go!

Just like we told ya'... ;)

I'm sure Q4 will love the extra GB of memory, I noticed a memoryuse of ~1.87 GB last time I played it..... :D

you shouldnt have bought the pc version!
i dont know if there have been any patches, but i doubt it.

ff7 is also one of my favourite games, and i played the ps version with an emulator and the pc version, and the ps version on an emulator is a lot better!
the emulator had a bunhc of topions the pc version didnt have.
some tweaks to improve texture quality, and it worked in higher resolutions than what the pc version would let you run.

im not 100% sure but try to rent the ps version and google the emulators that are available and try them out.

now back on topic, the timings should stay exactly the same, on intel boards you always have 2t. on amd systems you have 1t with 2 sticks and get 2t with 4 sticks wich is quite a performence hit. on intel plattforms theres nothing like that afaik. check if you can set a higher bank interleaving option in bios with more sticks.

1.87gb for Q4.... WTF !

Is that the total for only system memory and not including vga ram?

What about 4x1GB D9 sticks in Intel systems? Any problems?

That was for system total, but excluding videomemory. Q4 itself used around 1.4-1.5 GB.... Pretty crazy stuff. Not even BF2 or F.E.A.R. comes close....

Not that I mean to answer on his behalf, but I believe FUGGER is using a cascade cooler (way better than a prommy anyway). But the motherboard really is a great overclocker.

I did this with just a regular Mach II GT and a completely unmodded P5WD2 Premium with stock cooling as well. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=40360 Have a look at the memory speed and timings as well. And it's primarily the cpu cooling that keeps me from getting any further upwards.

That's why I said that with a P5WD2 and some Corsair 5400UL og 8000UL sticks, basically the only concern you'll ever have when overclocking is how to get your cpu cool enough to reach the potential of the motherboard and the memory.

That screen shot was done on my rig in my sig. It is a modded vapo.

No volt mods needed to hit 400 1:1, Ive hit 450FSB on cascade on this mobo. I have a pi and other benches run above 400FSB 1:1 with 4x 512MB

 Had to RMA the 2 new sticks of 8000ul today as one went faulty on me last night. in the end i used the 2 new sticks on there own for a full test and one stick had trouble, it would give memmory error's!

discoverd playing quake 4 after 3 hours. that game will test your hardware for sure! it started and then got worse with every re start, testing each stick i found the faulty one which just wasnt happy at any speed in testing.

so a 7 day wait now untill a new set is sent out!

That is my first stick of faulty ram from corsair ever, so i guess i cant complain to much. I think my least favorite is OCZ i just never had much luck with that stuff even though ive proberly tried 3 diffrent sets over the years yet others get good performance! from it, must be me.

Oh well back to Quake with 1 gig then.
