The Blue Gene/L supercomputer has broken its own record to achieve more than double the number of calculations it can do a second.
It reached 280.6 teraflops - that is 280.6 trillion calculations a second.

funny thing is in 5-15yrs time our children will have calculators or portable pda devices that probably do as many calculations LOL

i dont think you realize how much that thing would kill in something like crunching, etc.
it wouldnt even be funny how much work it did

Actually, Blue Gene wouldn't THAT good....it pretty much isn't great at much other than the benchmark that Top 500 list uses. In real world, it 'only' manages ~120TFlops, depending on the application. It'd still get us over the cows in a matter of days though ;)

it would be days as the stats server would have a fit trying to upload a million candidates in a few hours.

Crazy name....I meant days (didn't even think about Cossey's reason, but that's also another reason why it would take more than a few hours).
