I am really new to intel about 2 weeks new as a matter of fact. With my A64's I had always used clockgen for ocing and testing before setting bios. After about 3 days working on my 670 I am really tired of using just the bios. I want to stay away from installing AI booster. I tried the newest clockgen and when I try and open it I get the message no clockgenerator found. Has anoyone gotten clockgen to work on this board? If so any tips or tricks? Thanks in advance. :)

The motherboard comes with AI Booster that has a bit more control than setfsb

Thanks for the link. I like to keep my drives stripped down which is why I was shying away from installin AI booster. :)

I've tried getting clockgen from that link to work on mine, but no luck so far. I didn't play with it much though. I just use AI booster if I want to change anything in windows.

SetFSB, Clockgen and Systool works if you are using the older bios versions (0124, 0201, 0208). In the newer versions Asus has somehow locked the smbus access (read & write). The only software that can currently access the smbus is their own POS AIBooster.

We have been trying to reverse the AMI Single Link Arch bios core (where the smbus is also kept) and AIBooster itself with cpuz Franck. So far we haven´t succeeded yet...

I really hope that Asus doesn´t follow the path that Abit chose two
years ago. When they developed the µGuru feature and forced the customers
use their own (very restricted) software, they forsaked the more advanced
enthusians at the same time.

Asus advertises it self as a gamer and overclocker friendly company.
When we asked if they could either provide us the needed information to unlock the smbus, or make a new bios that has a unlocked smbus, they just said no.

Well, Franck actually reversed the Abit µGuru a while ago, so... ;)

Hey thanks for the info The Stilt hopefully Franckcan solve it. It's frustrating using the bios to OC and I hate wasting space w/ a manufacturers OC tool. :)

Im still frustrated about this.

When using The AIBooster it always wants to reboot :(

Check this thread - Corsair 5400UL & Asus P5WD2 DDR860 4-2-2-2 by The Stilt (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62412). He says, that for some reason that SetFSB doesn't work with Beta BIOSes, but is good for Official /Retail ones ;)

I just dont geet that, I dont runa Beta Bios and still I have problems :D

when you change your fsb by too much at once, or when you try to go get past the 266 or 333 mark you have to reboot. only way to get around this is to boot right at 266 or 333fsb.

To add to what CrimeDog said, you can also force the multi to 14 (at least with the 0519 bios) to make it easier to boot at 266 or 333, and then increase it with SysTool or similar when in Windows.

I found booting at 280 was best for me. I diced this mornign and maxed my 540 at just under 309 fsb. AI booster was all that would work and setfsb misread the fsb by 20. :( I need a new cpu.

AI booster sucks... that thing alone, made me shelf my P5WD2 as a occassional back up and little else... cause I got sick of going up by 3 FSB and then being asked to reboot... again...

M2... Dony understand how others make it work???

And set fsb doesent even start up, Someone indicated that this was because of the new bios versions.

It's odd, AI Booster works just fine for me with bios 0412 on the P5WD2. I can adjust pretty much everything, Vcore, Vmem, fsb over a substancial range without issue. Booting @ 360 Mhz fsb I can easily go +/- 40 Mhz fsb, which is plenty for my needs. But I always do increments of 5-10 Mhz fsb at a time, it's an old habit from my air-cooling days I guess :p:

There is no problem with AIBooster, but none of these 3rd party (Clockgen, SetFSB, Systool) software work with newer bios versions than 0208.

Asus has again locked the smbus access, and at the moment they are the only one who know how it can be unlocked. This isn´t anything new, since Asus P4T boards had the same "feature".

Hmmmm.

Me And Brian tried. I had to boot at 385x14 and do the super pi time.

That realy sucked.

Dont You Rekall we spoke about this at netbyte Lars??

BTW say happy burthday to Lars :D He just got REALLY OLD yesterday :p

Yeah Nosfer@tu I remember you guys having the problem at the LAN party.

I also remember that I was puzzled as AI Booster works just fine for me. On the other hand I have gotten a checksum error every single time I flashed the bios on this motherboard (about 6-7 times I gather), and everything works great. Go figure....

Thanks for the "happy birthday". I'm having a party tomorrow, and my neighbour is also having one, he just turned 30 2 days before well....... lets just say I got older..... LOL

I'm collecting up bios's. If anyone has any ones different than...

0304
0519
0606

Could you pm me? I also have full features in AI with 0304, and it seemed I have the same ones with 0606.

I was having great luck with 422 but I got a newer stepping 840es and it seems that 422 didn't have the microcode for that cpu. I have all kinds of problems with multi's with 519, but how can I use the new stepping cpu with an older bios?

I added few new microcodes to the old 0422 bios.

Uh.. I hate to sound like an idiot :) ..... but how do I use that? I can't read anything on that page, it looks like a bunch of symbols? Do I just copy that page as a .rom and load it like a bios? I've never opened a bios to see what it looks like, but I didn't understand anything on that link??? Sorry to be such a pain, but I'd sure like to be able to run my 840 with 422.

Just click "save as" on the link and save it to the disk.
Then flash the bios in with AsusUpdate or Afudos.

Sorry for the thread digging.

The new ASUS Bios sucks :P

I want to know if the issue with the modded bios has been resolved? Is the BIOS good now?
