Guys, i need your help...or rather advice.
Ive got 2 x 1gig Samsung Ram modules (DDR 400).
Seems to me 1gig modules don't OC that well.
I can only go as high as 218mhz on the ram when OCing my venice 3000+ @ HTT of 260. (At this point the ram is already set to DDR333).
To go higher than that i need to lower my ram even more, to DDR266. Which puts the ram @ a speed of 187mhz
Is the problem the 1gig modules? And, what ram settings would u guys recommend for 1gig modules.
Thanx

What kind of Samsung chips on it UCCC,and what PCB?

1GB modules always clocks worst than 512/256.
Many ram manufactures told, that are impossible to produce 128MB chips on TCCD or UTT.
But 1GB ram with identical clocks always shows better results(times) than 512MB and 256MB rams. dunno why..?

That is due to better bank interleaving. The more chips the module has, the better bank interleaving it has.
The 1GB modules clocks worse because if you have more chips then you have a bigger chance that 1 or more of the chips doesn't clock so well. And ofcourse bigger modules are heavier for the memcomtroler partly because of the more complicated bank interleaving and partly because of other factors involved in the connection between the memcontroler and de modules.

OCZ and others make 2gb kits that do overclock pretty good.
But stock samsung rams probably wont clock much..
Try lowering the memory timings.

Don't know
Thanx for the help guys.
This is the best OC enthusiast site i've come across. ;)

I dont think that 2gig ram can run 2-2-2-5 very high. Try running like 2.5-3-3-7 or 3-3-3-8. That might help u get the ram up to 260.

Thanx will try this.
Do u think i need to raise the voltage on the ram?
And what is a good voltage? Maybe 1gig modules need a bit more juice when Ocing.

I think from between 2.7-3.0 is safe for 2gig. Most people use like 2.8 or 2.9. Try 2.8v first.

Thanx, will try 2.8v.
Whats the default voltage on the ram?

2.5v is usually default voltage for DDR
Most likely you have UCCC chips (will say "UCCC" on the chips somewhere) which you can find some info on with the search button.

OK guys, feedback time.
Firstly, with ur advice i was able to push the ram to 230 (haven't tried going higher...yet). I did this by just raising the voltage to 2.8 :D
Timing 3-3-3-8
230 was PI 32 stable :toast:
I check my ram out and i have
SAMSUNG 513 K4H51083BC - UCCC.
I don't know if these are any good.
Thanx for the help guys :woot:

UCCC chips usually do 250-290 MHz with 3-4-4-8 timings and 2.8v, good luck ;)

Don't know how safe of me it was to do this, but I tried 3.1 volts on my UCCC and was able to increase my overclock from 260mhz to 265mhz at 3-4-4-8 timings. I had a 80mm fan blowing on them for cooling. It got through super pi 32m test fine, but i lowered the voltage right after that. Was wondering if anyone else has tried increasing the voltage that much on these chips.

Edit* My system wasn't stable at above mentioned post...had to realx timings.
Thanx for the info.
Im currently running my Venice 3000+ @ 2.5ghz with HTT - 280 / vcore - 1.525. Funny enough, i figured out those ram timings myself (3-4-4-8),
except i have 9 instead of 8. Ram voltage is at 2.75
My ram is currently running at 230 and u say it can go higher?

it should go higher....
My twinmoss generic RAM does 235@ 6-3-3-2.5T and 240 at 8-3-3-3T and thats when it's starving of volts....
your should go higher

Update ram is at 239
HTT @ 290 = 2.6ghz on CPU :toast:
U guys say this ram can go higher? Been playing NFSMW wholeday yesterday without lockups...will now try going even higher...maybe 2.7ghz :D
