i was just thinking that the premade phase change systems are about the same size as a shuttle or something, and they'd look pretty cool sitting next to eachother. anyone doing it?

Wow... That would be crazy. I am having hard time fitting everything with user friendliessness in V2000 (full tower case) as is. Shuttle sized phase changer...
Maybe it is possible to make something with the super small compressor mentioned on other thread. Not going to be able to cool too well but it should be able to get below ambient temperature if pressure doesn't get excessively high. Maybe I should play with that idea :)

The interesting thing is, the Shuttles already have compressorless phase change cooling systems! The refrigerant condenses in the condenser and simply flows by gravity to the evaporator. Pretty cool design. I suppose that with a little work, a small compressor and TXV can be added.

Ahahaha...
You never had shuttle for yourself... have you?
I would just use new evap than trying to figure out how to make that happen if I was in the boat. Way too thin and 6 pipes or 4 pipes (depending on the model) that are just parallel to each other as well as leaving almost no room for condensation proofing makes it not so good candidate as you would think. And it uses 4 hole mounting mechanism even for A64 models which I am not sure is standard sized. Anyways, why would one want TXV on such a small system with not as much heatload? Shuttles don't have much voltage and I would be surprised to see CPU in one of them using more than 120Watts ever for time being.

damn, i forgot about mounting, it would be next to impossible. as far as shuttles having not as much voltage..? i have a regular athlon 64 in mine.

I don't own one, but I've seen one in real life.
I suppose that a very small horizontal rotary compressor can be put where the optical drive and floppy drive normally go, along with the needed control circuitry. I'm not even sure if there is a compressor that will fit, but I think it's possible. (Wasn't there one the size of a coke can?) Then add some very high power Deltas to blow the heat out of the case.

No, it wont fit. Better to use an engine drive compressor, but It's a lot louder. Before everyone trys to correct me on this, they should wait until they see what I will be posting later this week. Everything's going to get a lot smaller.

i kinda meant a prometia or vapochill just sitting next to one.... not a custom system in the case, thats insane. but mounting it would be a huge problem.

So what about a "Shuttle like" case, but just a little larger so the compressor will fit? Just as long as it's easily portable.
And based on how it appears, an Antec SFF case (just a little larger than a Shuttle) might be able to hold a small freezer compressor. Might be a little difficult to fit in the motherboard and plumbing once there's a compressor taking up room, but it could be possible. Then use an external PSU to overcome the problem of finding a PSU that will fit and provide enough power. Hopefully, there'll be enough room left for a HDD. The optical drive can be USB since I've found that I rarely use it.
Of course, a real breakthrough will be if someone figured out how to make a compressor using nanotechnology. I don't see it happening anytime soon, but technology sure surprised me so many times.

Hmm... if size of coke can compressor is possible, you can take out the floppy and 5.25" section and use it for that... but I would be impressed if someone can find condenser that size. Anything around mach unit condenser size is already custom manufacturing stuff.. There is no standard need for such condensers...

I have at popcan cooler with me with at 120mm condenser on it, so it is used sometimes, yes ;)

Well that sounds interesting... post in in this thread so I dont miss it... :)

I don't think |3ord is talking about putting a phase change setup in a SFF WITH the system in there.....I think he's talking about putting two SFF cases side by side, one with the computer parts and one with the phase change parts.
This should be entirely possible and I'd like to see.....of cousre, I'd like to see a phase-change system with compressor in the SFF with the computer parts, too. :p:

i think i may start another project with my next few paychecks.. i have $700 saved up for m2, but i can use that for something this cool instead and just save up later :p:

Sounds fun :) Might want to try it myself if I manage to get some time :)

I'd be willing to take the Pepsi challenge of building one inside a Shuttle. Maybe an old 865 shuttle, and a teeny tiny compressor? Ok, so you'd never get good temps, or maybe even below zero, but cool novelties have their place too :)
