Finding 4gb of Memory Not Detected in Windows SP2 Fix + SP1 info

OK guys, here's what we know:

When running 4gb of memory in Windows XP it is not all recognized or used by default. 3gb is the most you will see. When running SP1 you can add the switch " /PAE" (Physical Address Extension) to your boot.ini file and 4gb is recognized and can be addressed by applications.

When running SP2 with 4gb, only 3gb is recognized by XP. Using any combination of Microsoft's suggest switches in boot.ini will not help.

We realize that few of you will have 4gb of memory to test with, but possibly you have run across a fix or a simply a genius and know the answer already. (No we can't send you 4gb to test with :slap: )

IIRC, there's a setting in bios which can help. Now, I'm not sure this is exactly it, but setting the "Memory Hole" option on will allow windows to map the 4gb of memory. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong :p:

Yip correct statement and demonstrated by Eva2000 when he was doing his 4 GIG tests with the Ballistics. Enabling Memory Hole allowed him to see 4 gigs. Well allowed windows actually to see it, for Eva2000 could see them since he did not have a memory hole, only hole he had was in his pockets from buying 4 gigs of Ballistics !:D

Andy has the memory hole option enabled in bios. The post shows all 4 gigs of ram. The problem occurs when you go into windows, once SP2 is implemented, Windows properties (right click of My Computer) will only show 2.75 - 3.0 GB of ram. No matter what you do. It has to do with DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and certain 32bit drivers. The link Andy gave to Microsoft has another link at the bottom of the page that explains how DEP works and protects from certain Malicious programs.

Tried that too! No switches help in any combination. I am heading to i4memory to chck out eva2000's info.

Yes, this is a 32bit issue only.
