I do that, in the same way, but just during a test. When i found the vcore and vmem, i change all of that for a smd resistors... Anyway, its good :D...

Some of the fets get hot and I put sinks on some of them. If your molex connector is getting hot you probably have high electrical resistance. The fets near your molex are probably what are making the molex heat up if you don't have high electrical resistance. You should be installing revoltec cu sinks, ocz's are small :-p.

You also should turn the sinks 90 degrees so when the air from the fan hits them, they can flow away from the card. but ill assume you are watering cooling the card anyways..

indeed i am watercooling. i used to have 2x120mm 119cfm fans blowing directly on the card. now i just have a wimpy 80mm 32cfm fan and my case fans. i have extra sinks, but can find a place to buy good thermal tape. :( but with this cold weather coming i should be able to get some nice clocks. i already have top mark for WHQL 5950U cards in 3dmark05. i hope to get top WHQL scores for 5950U in 03. its a old card now. but hey, its good to mod.

I solder rails right onto mobos and videocards, bypassing any plugs. I hate the voltage drop they aways add.

what have your experiences been with before and after?

Not much, I have been doing it for so long that I don't have any recent comparisons, It took away a .3V loss on a R9700, that's one of the most recent things I checked before and after.

I also switched to 14 gauge wire, so that could have been part of it.

The fewer connections you have between any component(s) the better. Craig's method of direct connection (via soldering) is by far the superior way to do this. Especially for high performance and overclocked components.

WestSide, you should certainly see some stability with this mod. The problem with the installed molexs is that the connection goes from a large connection on the board, to smaller "pin-lines", back to large male pins. This causes the electrons in each point of that small path to have differing velocities to hold the voltage/current at the required level. As ridiculous as that might sound, it does impact the stability of the circuit once voltage/current is applied. The same thing happens once you start adding connectors between components. So, you will get some better stability since you are using wires that are the same gauge as the psu, but still not as good as Craig's method.

I have the top 3D marks from my FX-5900 NU. That was the best overclocking video card I had used on air(used a vf-700-cu with vantec sinks). I did this with modified drivers :), my modified drivers and my personally modified bios. If you want to see it, just search under 5900 nu under modified drivers. You'll see me.
