hey all,
after getting my 3800 venice to 2880mhz (240fsb) the chipset and PWM IC temps in smartguardian turn red when they go above 50 degrees C.
now they dont go much over, sort of hover around 52, 53 when the CPU is at load. but this is stable, right? NF4 is fine up to like 70C isnt it? and i wudnt have a clue about the mosfets, apart from i think i remember reading that they can go alot higher.
its just in my mind, red = WARNING! thought id make sure before i clock things back up.
cheers peeps

If you have any fan layin round that you aren't using. Just put it above those fets so they stay fairly cool and possibly you gain a few mhz and some stability to boot :stick: :D

yeah i do have 3 spare ones kickin around but id like my rig to stay as quiet as it is now if i can help it. i dont wanna be adding more fans for extra cooling if i dont need it.
i have 2 silenX 120mm ixtremas in there which i know are very low CFM fans. thing is, my case temp is 23C - pretty much ambient temp around my house (due to CPU/GPU being watercooled)...
so will these temps do? or do i really need some active cooling on the fets and more cooling on the chipset?
cheers

If your system is stable. I dont see any reason to worry bout. Your mb mosfets are sinked anyways and they are fairly descent ones....For the chipset. Just replace the stock thermal pad with ASC or AS5 since it's already being actively cooled.

The PWM and NB thermosensors are not even in the IC anyway.... so the readings fom ITE are relatively worthless (especially when watercooling)...
I noticed this the other day when I turned off my fan that cools the MOSFET sinks on my 7800GTXs (which is right next to the NB). My NB is watercooled and the NB was readin 38C and my CPU was readin 28C (I was idle). I turned the fan back on and the NB reading dropped down to 32C, so it just shows that the readings are not of the actual chip speed.
This is the same case with the PWM IC...

The PWM and NB thermosensors are not even in the IC anyway.... --I noticed the same thing few months ago with my watercooled NB, putting a fan on the blocked chipset lowers temps immediately. I was surprised because I had actually thought the chipset itself has a internal temp sensor.
I wonder where is that NB sensor on DFI nF4...

right, cool. thanks for the info. i know where the pwm probe is, its the little yellow bulbous node just at the top of the fets. but thats pbly obvious.

hang on tho, do i still need to be worries by these readings? or is it cool at that temp.
Care about stability.
Those ITE readings are totally worthless.

There not useless, but they should mainly be used as just a guide.

right. so the reading is gonna be less than the actual temp. but would you suggest active cooling? or should i just suck it and see, and if things get unstable, put a fan on it? cos those readings sound way low considering what i think ive heard they can hack.
