When I used 1gb(2x512mb) OCZ Platinum EL PC4800, I used to run 300mhz @ 2.5-4-3-5 1T 1:1, 300x9 multiplier @ 1.525v cpu, ram 2.9v

What BIOS versions were you guys using? Running the Winny in my sig at 8 x 300 and the RAM at 3:2 (2-3-3-6-1T) it will not boot. However it will boot at 2T?! I'm running BIOS 1008. Do I just have a really crap memory controller or something?

I didn't try that hard but the link is below. 300+ just doesn't seem to be the nature of this beast. cpuz 45352.
Only managed 260 fsb stable.
Cpu 1.5 and yeah it wouldn't boot or prime below 1.5 at this speed.
Ram 3.0 Hynix 4200el .
Id like to get 300 stable perhps Multi of 9 and a bit more on the divider. The ram seems to have plenty of headroom. Not sure about the board. :slapass:
Cooler was custom chiller set to room temps to emulate WC offsite. 72F
cpu DD rbx, GPU 6800DDblock, chipset stockhpipe(stuck on like it was welded on there.) Its working fine never above 40-45 C.

If I recall well 1007.002 was also quite nice (Im not using that board anymore).

I used to be able to boot at 300HTT 1T on BIOS 1005 but I can't on 1008 :( I reckon this is the problem...!

Ok this is really weird. Using the following settings (BIOS 1008):
CPU 1.50V 8x multi
RAM 3:2 CAS2-3-3-6-11-1T
HTT 1.25V 3x multi (chipset at 1.6V)
It boots perfectly all the way up to 298Mhz HTT. But as soon as I go to 299Mhz it freezes after detecting IDE drives. Only way to boot at 299 or over is by disabling 1T. Seems Asus have reintroduced an old bug in the newer BIOS revisions?!

I'll post back tomorrow after I try some more I was stuck at 270 unstable. I need to up the divider some more and relax my timings I imagine.

I was thinking of switching from 1005 to 1008, but all I hear are problems
I have similar problems, I can't get any sort of stability after 295MHz HTT, In 1004 and 1005 i could do better, but I had to do a lower multiplier on my cpu max cpu stable oc was 150MHz less, so I went for the higher cpu for benching, I am tempted to go back to 1004 or 5 and see if the cpu thing was just my imagination

My computer is currently being re-arranged to accomodate new cooling, so it is not up and running at the moment, if I don't see anyone get this going by the time my computer is back up, I'll let you know

hmm
i did boot @ 300HTT with multi 8x and RAM at 333Mhz
i've got the 1008 BIOS... but let me tell ya... I don't think i like this bios... im getting some freezes after posting IDEs... and after the reset, it tells me the boot as failed! that only happens with the 333Mhz divider!!!
U guys, try running with multi 266Mhz... im sure it will boot! (its not a ram/cpu bug... its a bios bug as far as i can tell!)
we need a good OCing bios for this board DESPERATLY!! either that or im selling mine and getting my other option: DFI Ultra-D! :( (and i don't want that too much for several reasons :S)
anyway... good luck y'all!
NOTE: Lower Multis w/ Higher HTTs is NO LONGER a good OC!! Not on A64!! That was a good OC for AXP... with A64, the multiplier also affects the memory's bandwidth.. not a good choice to lower it!! Keep it as high as possible, run mems 1:1 if possible!! :)
I'LL POST A LINK WITH A COMPARISON FOR THIS THESIS that i read but don't have it here with me =)

Einztein, I am trying to run on a 266 divider, but this is where I am getting problems! Worked on 1005 (but started developing boot hangs), not working at all on 1008! Might give the 1009.004 Beta a try and see what happens.
I doubt Asus will give us a good OC BIOS, they will want us to buy the A8N32-SLI board instead

sumang007,
dang... all i want is a decent OC BIOS... don't want more options... just a stable OC BIOS ;((((((((((( besides, other than the nicer copper heatpipe, the a8n32-sli will surely suffer from the same BIOS problems as all other Asus boards when it comes to expert OC... and don't gimme the AI crap... that sux (don't have any Asus Utilities installed... and never will :S)... What made go for the Asus was STABLE OC... I can't that with a more personalized OC! If i just do a "standard" FSB OC... I'm fine with it, if i start messing with the timings and htt and multipliers.. all is bad :S SH*T :(((
anyway,
here is the link about the "thesis" i raised on my previous post:

good read for y'all A64 OCers :)

Da-key, is that with 1T enabled? What RAM are you using?
[edit] Also, how come your TRC (Bank Cycle Time) is set so high to 20T?! Default is usually 11T I think!
Thanks,

indirectly, it effects bandwidth... which is really dependant on ram speed and cpu speed

BTW, just one question that I had in mind for some time already:
What CPUs are you using (only directed to the people who do have problems with this board)?
I mean I have an A8N SLI Deluxe (nearly identical PCB) and on that board, you sure know, getting a decent overclock with 1T is also a big problem for some (or most  ) people. I got mine recently and it did 335Mhz HTT at 1T without braking a sweat. The board was unmodded (just a Zalman chipset heatsink with fan instead of the stock heatsink-fan-combo) with the latest beta BIOS.
Now I saw that the poeple who had those kind of problems used Winchester CPUs in most cases. I have a Venice E6 and as I said absolutely no problems. That's the reason why I'm asking what CPUs you got.
It could be a matter of the CPU's Internal Memory Controller.

Yeah that was with 1t. The bank cycle time is a glitch or something it was set manually at 10 -16 so that 20-16 must be a bug. I could only get 1 t with the lowest ratio on the divider.

celemine1Gig: I'm using a Winny CBBHD 0444 VPMW.
da-key: Were you using the 2:1 ratio?? That means your RAM was running at ~150Mhz, which isn't too really :p

I had no problem with my TCCD and 0517 Venice @ 305x9 (I think it was stock bios 1005?)

Hmm, so exactly what I expected. Now, it seems that it's either a BIOS problem, i.e. the baord's BIOS doesn't like Winchester's Memory Controller, or (that's what I think) the Winchester's Mem Controller just can't take any more.
The only way to find out is to get a Board that is known to do higher HTT and test it with your CPU. If it craps out at the same or nearly the same HTT with your CPU, then it's the CPU. If not, then it's a BIOS prob. ;)

X2 3800+ (primestable @ 2400Mhz 1.375V (48ºC full load 37º idle) & prettystable @ 2650Mhz 1.45V (52-53ºC full load 39-40º idle))

Well, as I said, not Winnies only, but rather crappy Memory Controllers. It's just that the Winnies have older Controllers which tend to be more crappy then. :)
Edit:
But anyway, just can't believe that an FX-57 or a X2 should have that crappy of an IMC. Something else might be holding you back. Casn you even run higher than 300Mhz HTT at 2T (I'm sorry if you already posted that info; just too late here, need some sleep :D )?
well I plugged the FX into my a8n sli deluxe and I got it to run 300HTT 2T prime stable 1:1 w/ that chip, which I could not do on the premium w/ the 1008 bios.
I might actually swap out the mobo and go back to 1005 just for BIOS testing purposes to give some info to this thread. Tomorrow night is a prime candidate for something like this from me. Stay tuned!

I only had an hour and didnt run any test to check stability so thats just a cpuz screen after boot previous post.
Heres the rig had to get it ready quick on a limited budget before the tygon arrived, hence the zips and extra 90's etc. DD RBX & 6800 block.

I've got two MOD-BIOSs for the board, with CL1.5, lower Tras and 150Mhz and 183Mhz memory dividers (nearly all of these extra options have no name, due to BIOS limitations, so select them via the menu [ENTER] and not via "page up/down"). If you want to give it a try, it's here:
Based on the official 1009 BIOS:
http://people.freenet.de/celemine1Gig/BIOS/A8NPMOD.BIN
Based on the 1009-004 Beta:
http://people.freenet.de/celemine1Gig/BIOS/B1009MOD.BIN
