Well I was looking at watercooling for my new computer and said theres no way in hell I'm paying 350 dollars to cool my CPU when I'd only get 100mhz max over a 50 dollar heatsink so I'm getting a TT BT. I know the stock fan is good and quiet but how good is it? I was thinking of switching it out to something better, preferably an LED fan but I can't find any good ones. Should I even bother? LED fans all look sucky :(

it's very quiet and moves 54cfm... moving up to a noisier fan will get you a few degress but it's not worth the hassles in my opinion, however if cooling is your primary goal and you lap that baby and put a gigger fan on it, you have the best air cooler on the market by several degrees for sure....

78CFM at 21dba? I'm having a hard time believing that... Looks good though. Has anyone tried push/pull on a BT? Would it be better to flip the stock fan over? Noise doesn't bother me as long as it's not like a 55dba delta fan.

Thermaltake BS's their CFM ratings. That fan would probably push 78cfm, but certainly not at 21dba. I don't have any fans that are alot more powerful than the stock fan, otherwise I would test.

I picked up that fan - not worth the 1-2deg - its loud 21 dba is not accurate.

But is the 19dba on the BT accurate?

I have a sound insulated case, I can't hear it at all now. But even running on a desk a quiet hard drive is much louder

Well I have a 74 gig raptor right now and had countless people tell me how annoying it sounds and I can't hear it even with my ear next to it...

I agree with UnG, if you lapping it will make a difference. The bottom is poorly machined. I have one and after lapping it think it's great. I too had thought about wc but unless you go really high end, there is not that much of a gain.

Too many years of loud bass you say? I'm 15 and have been using headpones all my PC career :p: Although I'm usually listening to the 4 deltas and other assorted fans I've run on my bench rig at once.
My current gaming rig this will go in has:
4 80mm fans
4 PSU fans
2 120MM fans
zalman alcu gfx cooler
Getting to the point where it's a bit annoying to sleep with it on...

I wonder how silent it will be with a 150cfm fan?

Thats my rig now, complete with the delta fan zip tied over my stock 3700+ diego heatsink that's ghetto mounted with a flipped over retention bracket and a random cheiftech brand 80MM fan between.
Ordering a TT BT and X-FI right now :D Told my dad it would increase my D2OL output

problem is you're losing surface area because the fan will throw air past the sides of the BT. Even the "stock" 120mm fan suffers this problem somewhat.. can be fixed with a bit of foam and glue though.

take a look at the Silverstone FM121....it's a godsend from heaven to married with the Big Typhoon, 110CFM rated at 39dB....it's still much quieter than my PCP&C 510 PSU fan, I'd dropped about 4~6'C(underload) from changing out the stock fan with the FM121, who said you have to compromise noise for performance?!?! :D :D

1. Get something to fill in the 2 gaps on the sides @ where the Heatpipes bend. PC stuff white packing foam, etc works very well for this
2. What they said about lapping - YES YES YES. Definately needs it.
3. Use Panaflo M - best match IMHO for fin spacing and air flow based on testing (and I have the FM121, this was better since more of the air went THRU the HSF instead of bouncing back :D ) Stick your finger under the HSF to feel airflow and above (NO NOT IN IT )THE fan to feel backflow....
4. If you have the room, take and use gutted 25-38mm thick 120mm fan as a spacer to zap the dead spot and make it not only more effective but quieter.
5. Find a way to help support it from above (to see what I mean, while watching temps, GENTLY push underneath straight UP on the FAN casing to reduce the downward pull/torque and watch the temp drop 1-2c) Even more important if you add the spacer
6. Go look at my new and past posts here and in WC addressing mounting this thing, etc.
7 look in Sig (hers :buddies: ) to see results so far (I'm getting a new one today for 'Indabsmt'
