Hello, I am doing my 1st post here at XS...Anyway, I was using my 3.0C Northy (SL6WU) and OC'd to 254 FSB....I just upgraded to X2 4400+ which will be delivered tomorrow (taking the day off of work). Do you think this new rig will be notably faster?

Hey man welcome to XS!
Yeah I think you are going to notice a substantial boost if you can get a reasonable OC on that baby. A lot of it is due to the video card as well. The one problem I see is that your Asus is not that decent an OCer...but will be a good stable board.
And again welcome on board, check out our F@H, D2OL and Dimes teams!

Welcome to XS! Our D2OL team would really appreciated the firepower of that X2. :hehe: I think that you will feel a difference. Haven't really had much experience on Intel. At least not a good Intel. My brother has a 2.8 P4, and my computer is a whole lot faster than that, but that's going from a 2.6 A64. Feel free to stop by the D2OL Team section. We get a little crazy in there, so don't get too scared. Like this one time with Perkam...

Thanks again for the warm welcome. Great Forum!!!
ahhh:The Drug Design and Optimization Lab (D²OL)™ works to discover drug candidates against Anthrax, Smallpox, Ebola and SARS and other potentially devastating infectious diseases.
I will have to check this out, sounds interesting...

Here's the thread to get you started D2OLing (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43195)
If you have anymore questions about it, feel free to ask anyone in the XS Mafia, or anyone that has something with D2OL in their sig.

Are you guys recruiting every new member who comes with a question?

What cooling are you running on the X2?

I am planning to use the XP-90, but will go Custom water if necessary. This time around I want to go REALLY quiet on my rig.

If it's quiet you want you can get that with the Big Typhoon or even a 7700.... I recommend the near silent Big Typhoon...

I just got through playing with an A8N-SLI recently.
I think that board gets a bad rap on the OC front. Yeah, it's limited in voltage, a little bit, but it's not limited too far below what a typical 24/7 OCer on air or passive water cooling will want. plus, as you mention it is a pretty stable board.
(plus, the DFI that everyone loves has that noisy chipset fan)
OP I think you will be quite happy with your system.
memory settings and behavior on A64 are a bit different than what you are used to on Intels, so....don't be discouraged if it's a bit confusing.
