Welcome one and all to the D2OL BBQ contest. The boys are getting darn hungry here at Xtremesystems and there seems to be T-BONES :cow: on the menu. Can you help us eat sooner?
Your venerable team leaders at D2OL have decided to pump things up a notch and have turned to an outright membership drive competition to help the new wave of crunching along.
The goal of the contest: Sign up members from the existing non-participating membership community to join the D2OL team and you could win. It’s that simple.
What can I win?
Well Tim, you could take home a complete mATX system composed of an OC’d P4 running at 2.4 complete with RAM, DVD drive, HD, floppy in a custom SFF desktop case professionally painted with your choice of color that draws less than 125 Watts while in full operation. An easy inexpensive way to add to your numbers or a lovely little netsurfing rig for Mom with all the core needs integrated on the mobo.
You could also take home a 256 Meg Pen drive, preloaded with Linux and D2OL ready to boot and crunch from the start. Just set any system to boot off the drive and bingo, you are crunching in no time, no HDD required. These secondary prizes are open to all crunchers who put up 2250 candidates during the contest period. This means your newly signed up crunchers could win something as well!!!!
We MAY have other prizes at random as sponsors come on board.
How do I win?
Easy, to gain an entry ticket, sign up a new D2OLer to fold for our team and have that person declare by email that you signed him or her up. This contest will run for three weeks starting October 23rd and ending November 13th 2005. At that point, the contest will be closed to new entries and your newly signed up crunchers have two more weeks to hit the minimum crunching requirements of 2250 candidates as recorded in the official team stats list on November 27th. On November 28th the draw will be held.
You gain ONE GRAND PRIZE ENTRY PER SIGNUP! The more you sign up, the better the chance you will win.
Rules
Sign up a cruncher, have them forward their XS userid, D2OL user ID and the XS user ID of the person who signed them up to uglyngrey at the infamous hotmail. The topic should read “Grand Prize Entry”. They will be tracked in the stats until the contest closes. Any cruncher who hits 2250 points during the contest duration is awarded a single entry in the secondary prizes draw.
Xtremesystems Moderators, Admins, Staff (excepting news staff) are not eligible for prizes, but may still compete with you to recruit members. Their new recruits are eligible for secondary prizes just like everybody is.
Abuse of this process and breach of the contest rules in anyway (duplicate accounts, false entries) can result in expulsion from XS, so play fair, it's just a contest.
FAQ
Why do my entries have to produce 2250 candidates?
Simple, a very average P4 can produce those candidates in about 15 days. By ensuring your new members produce a minimum number of candidates, you are motivated and responsible to mentor them in getting their rigs working correctly for crunching.
I live in Antartica and I won a prize. What about shipping and duties?
The item will be shipped to you; however you are responsible for any duties accorded by your governments.
What if there is a dispute?
A dispute panel of the D2OL team leads and UglynGrey will resolve all disputes. Our decision is final in all matters relating to the contest.
My signup used to crunch, is he an eligible candidate?
For the purposes of competition, anyone who has not crunched in 60 or more days is fair game if they actively participate once more under their own ID. So for someone who no longer crunches and is just moving their candidates over to an active user it is not counted as an entry. This contest is designed to increase the actual amount of people crunching for our team.

As you guys know, I'm predominantly a folder but I can't do a ton right now as I'm restricted to a very slow modem connection until my sat dish is installed in December. But I swore up and down the first guy that asked me would get my support. ex2cib has the first entry for the draw :D

I missed this question earlier, caught it re reading the thread. What do you mean? you mean old crunchers who were idle? That's fine, I have a full XML data drop of everyone who is currently registered with the team and will measure against a new one at the end... easier to use the same ID's etc if they are reactivating...

yea, modem's suck...im on one right now actually, waiting until Bellsouth gets their act together and FINALLY gets dsl here in early dec. 4mb/768 :slobber:
what makes is worse is that everything seems to be optimized for broadband now

Sorry... I thought this was something people were already using. Can you tell us a little about it? Does it run off of linux? What do you approximate the footprint to be?
This is a very interesting prize! :slobber:

Final foot print should be under 64Meg for GUI (Dimes only has GUI) quite a bit smaller for F@H and D20L... say 32 for D2OL, as low as 8Meg for F@H...

My D2OL folder is 68MB per node with 2000 candidates queued if that helps. (And I strongly recommend that everyone set there queue limit to the max of 2000!)
So I assume a Linux distro will be used... so the user will be required to copy drivers to the thumb drive?
I know you don't have it done yet... sorry if I'm bugging you with questions but this just seems uber cool and I'm very curious as to how this would work. (Knowing little to nothing about Linux doesn't help either.)

So poach away.

If this team would habe a TSM department (or was it TMC) I'dve brung over my points gather under the DPC flag to :p:
But I did not D2OL before Xs so... :)
Edit: UnG, you serius? Does it have to be a active cruncher or just something willing to donate points to us? :)
I'll be glad to give it a go :)
Ugly n Grey
10-24-2005, 11:41 AM
It would be scalable with the accomplishment, seeing as the moo girls read our forums, I think the odds are low. But if it is pulled off, I will make it a very special event. As well, keep in mind, you are doing this to contribute to the research, so the net goal of D2OL would not be subverted in any way. As always, keep it friendly.

Yeah if he has a grand today and you re-activate him, he has to be at 3250 at contest end... and it's really easy.... only a couple of weeks of crunching out of the five ish till contest end...

Jochenp, I cant see how it screws up your ping
turn it "offline" and set the cand tasks to 1 after youve downloaded lots (say 2000), that way you only have to post cands (upload) when you need to, Eg your 2000 ran out and you need some more ;) - then the only time you need to download new cands is when youve ran out...

I sure do:D
I just have a problem, my sister and I are on a router, and her pc had d2ol running too now, and she's one of my nodes, she has already made 20 results to upload, they where uploaded but d2ol website keeps saying she hasn't done anything, is this because we have the same ip?

did you register the account under your email you registerd your account with? if so you still need to add it to your account. Go to your account on D2OL.com and press add node, there you'll see nodes you can add/that are registerd on your email
