Hi, It is my first direct die attempt. The parts :
Tecumseh 1/4 HP R12 compressor.
Chilly condenser with shroud
filter/dryer
3m of 0.031 cap tube
Flex hose
old AT case
Decided to use R22, is cheaper, and dont know if the compressor would handle R502....
switch conectors
Still not ready :
Evaporator
pics..

Also have the insulation material, also i am planning a cap in cap evaporator with a Cathar cascade waterblock base.

10-22-2005, 05:12 PM
that compressor can handle r502, i try r502 with 1/6hp and it works :)
anyway, maybe you cant get "extreme" low temperatures with r22 but you can handle a big load
SlackeR
10-22-2005, 05:32 PM
Don't use that base!
It would be such a shame. I don't think it is much better than anyy other bottom for an evap, and it is such a great waterblock.
you'd be better off selling it and getting stock copper to make your evap.
Marvin
10-22-2005, 05:47 PM
thanks, but some comments..
My wb has the poly top cracked, so it would be hard to sell. Waht about the insulating material :
It is a 29 mm thickness armaflex. Shuld handle a low temp evaporator ?

That a great start !!! do you have a vacuum pump or acess to one? looks like the compressor joint was heated a little hot.You don't want to melt where the tube comes thru the shell.

thanks, i dont have money to buy a vac pump, but i can rent a one for some days...also a manifold and some gas.
My brazilng skills are getting better, so i should have a better braze as a used almost i bottle of gas to improve my skills :)

get plain copper, that would be real hard insulate

Here a small update :
I managed to put a 20 AMP switch (double), so that i can turn both the compressor and the fan :)
And the enclosure is a small AT case, but i will paint in black :

do you need all that room?
i think you are better off building a small case!
Marvin
10-25-2005, 11:05 AM
you are right. maybe is taller the a selfmade ,but it is what i can get $$. :)
thanks

you can cut that case, but, try to mod it and it will look really nice

Marvin
11-01-2005, 02:41 PM
yes, i will. :)
2 little update, one is that i found an old fride compressor, but i dont know if is it working properly :
It is a tecumseh R134A 1/4 HP
http://premium1.uploadit.org/Marvin//P1010026.JPG
http://premium1.uploadit.org/Marvin//P1010027.JPG
And the second one, i bought 2 PVC pipe reducers to use as an enclosure :
the bigger has 75x50 mm and the other has 60x40 mm.
http://premium1.uploadit.org/Marvin//P1010032.JPG
the_new_guy
11-01-2005, 07:42 PM
are you planning to do with the second compressor?
dont tell me you are trying to make a cascade!
Marvin
11-01-2005, 07:51 PM
no, i dont have knowledge to make a cascade yet...
both are 1/4 HP, but one uses r12 and the other r134a.
the_new_guy
11-01-2005, 08:49 PM
make 2 ss, one for gpu and other for the cpu,
use the 134a one for the cpu and r12 one for the gpu,
use 134a if not 402a/507/404a/502 dont use r22

does this rollerbag sensor would meansure correctly ?
Comp-Freak
12-30-2005, 04:20 AM
Dunno. You could test it with icewater, it should display 0,0 degrees. But it could be that the sensor is less accurate at lower temps.

whats inside the evap?

01-16-2006, 09:58 PM
haha, I like it, kinda ghetto style with the old case and fan controller there, but I really like the condenser, for the life of me, I can't find a decent condenser o_O. chances are you can get a bead-type probe for your digital thermometer. I've got a bead type and "rod" K-type thermocouple for my thermometer, and they're both relatively accurate (shows 0 degrees in ice watter, and room temperature is the same on both, lol, all I have to go by)

johann
01-17-2006, 08:57 AM
I have had bog problems getting the 0.031 captube the rigth length.
If you use Gary Loyds rule for captube you end up with something like 5.7metres for 150watts.
With 0.031 the best results I get is with 2.8 - 3 metres

Agree with that! :)
4m sounds a "little" (;)) bit too long for me!
2,8 - 3m, as johan already said, should do best! :)

I have just brazed the HX. It was almost 3 hours, unlike using a oxi/acet torch....

good work, Be sure to build a shroud so condensor gets all its air from outside the case. You don't want the air to "short cycle" back around condensor . Also running 20"hg propably won't give any capacity and is hard on compressors.I sure this was just first test pics.
Looking good !!!
