those are some pretty crazy times Midnight, but not really in tune with what this thread is all about.
i happen to be working on my 15.xx time and you are going to spank me where you are at with that time, but what you want to do is lower your frequency until you are getting results right at 15.59.xxx. the goal is to run within the time slot at the lowest frequency and you have plenty of MHz to drop to get in under 16 minutes. i look forward to your result thought as it should be pretty stonch.

Yes people, ditto what 3oh6 said and just like what moonman did. Good time though on the 13.xx midnight.
i just got an Abit QuadGT so i figured that the 32M low clock would be the best place to do some testing to get to know the board. one big problem is that it ate my Super Talent PC8000 C4s i think. i was playing around with only 2.4v VDIMM and after trying to push what i could boot at on the 800 strap the memory started acting funny...sure enough, both sticks are all but dead :(
so it is back to the Team Group 6400 C3s. i am still learning the board and how far i can push memory but came up with a pretty decent time for the 15.xx.xxx section so i thought i would throw it up here. abit guru shows semi-accurate voltages for everything but VDIMM...it's actually set to 2.35v in the BIOS.

Yes people, ditto what 3oh6 said and just like what moonman did. Good time though on the 13.xx midnight.
i think you should add MUST [SEE FIRST PAGE BEFORE POSTING RESULTS] in thread title and use RED BOLT in the first post to explain what results we are looking for :toast:
@ 3oh6, to bad about your mems. Do you think it was freak/board specific or does 800 cause more of a demand or load? I have abit but have found 800 to be difficult to get anything decent with.
@ dinos, done. Probably would have been helpful if I would have done that some time ago.

coop you will have to ask a mod to change the thread title
as it didn't change even though you made the corrections.....
dinos22
04-15-2007, 08:28 PM
and while you're at it
put the rules up the top of the thread and make them
THIS SIZE IN CAPITAL, RED, BOLT, SIZE 4 :)
and a disclaimer that we will send someone to shoot them down if they post disobeying the rules j/k :D

Just a hint coop, if you use the fixedsys font, every character is the same width, so you can line things up perfectly. ;) Not a big deal just throwing that out there in case you get bored.
Thanks Gautam. I'm learning. I will get that fixed as I wanted it to look better myself. Just didn't know how. I'll tell you about being bored. Last night I babysat my comp. while I did a 8hr Prime. I had to monitor CoreTemp. and add ice to my cooler/res. I'm doing another right now at 4020. I hope it can complete. 1.544v We are having perfect weather now (cold spell) in Phx. for doing this.

Finally I had some time for benching.
This is my best score for Sub15 min, it seems that I have some room for improvement, but I'am already happy with the result.
Later on I wil try for sub14 and sub13.
System :
Asus Commando
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3120 Mhz (8 x 390 Mhz, 1,53 Volt bios)
2x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC8000 @ 585 4-4-4-4-5 (2,5 Volt bios)
Everything is air cooled (cold air)
ok...for now it is a work in progress. I'll try later.

I think Ive given you guys ( especially you NewBeatle ) enough of a head start.... I think its time I show my entry.....
Every tweak known to man has been used in this run..... The OS is XP based but highly modified ( thanks to a special friend in Redmond ;) ) to make Superpi 32M run very efficient, in 1m its not as effective..... I didnt show Memset but just believe me when I say its very tight:cool: .....

Working on some more tweaks ( theres prolly still a couple out there that I dont know ) and with Dice next week, I should break 12m30s if everything goes as planned.........

I see it like synchro fsb<>ram is very very fast (ok strap 1066 also helps but not to much, it is more important in 1M), I think 550 synchronous is equal with ~600 2:3, also this is on xp sp2 maybe it is possible to go under 13min with 2k3, this one is also without any ramdisk applications, we tried (this result is done by my OC Team) ERAM but results was worse. I will try to tweak it more these days.

I'm 99% sure that he is using 2k3, which ramdisk application u are using?
yours 32M score is really great under zero, so yes we can resemble together :D, but me and my Team must use XP :(, give us much better clock for CPU vs. 2k3

Misko
04-23-2007, 02:43 AM
one more advantage for me of using Abit is that when go sub zero perf number will not go down like on other boards, little explanation:
when using dlx on 3600 category competition, u are using 2:3 divider fsb is 400, and ram is 600, when u go sub zero it would be pretty much the same thing, maybe u will move few mhz but.... when using abit, on air it is 514 for both RAM and FSB, and when u go sub zero it would be 540+:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/522/screenshot028tl2.png
Do not watch result it is not good (it is 3rd in the world, but win wasn't so good) so my Team will heave boost in fsb and memory (that dlx users do not have) :toast:

what were your tube temps and core temps again and how close were you managing to keep the temps to
also what does that CPU do on dice
I have send u PM (because it would be off topic if we start discussion about it)

1M 32M
MAXMEM 256MB 512MB
pagefile size 64-128MB 256-512MB
modPI's directory boot drive RAM-Disk
Special Methods none Copy-Waza & physical memory adjustment
Without these tweaking and methods, the score is about 20% slower.
Look this result with default setting (=without these tweaking and methods).
Hi NewBeetle impressive runs you have put in, I'm intrigued that your listed tweaks has included MAXMEM for the 32M runs. I have been doing some extensive testing of 32M runs (which can be found here (http://www.ocxtreme.org/forumenus/showthread.php?t=332)) and have found adjusting MAXMEM to 400, 500 and 600 did not gain me anything in my runs. I wonder is there anything different in the way you are implementing this tweak? My method is as follows
Start -> run... "msconfig" The System Configuration Utility box will open up and you need to go to the "boot.ini" tab. Click "advanced options..." to bring up another box notice /MAXMEM is at the top with a number input beside it. Now here is where it gets vague. The majority say that for 32M calculations setting /MAXMEM to 600 works best, and for 1M calculations a values of 104. A bit of playing around with this value will be required but don't go crazy low or high as you may well bork your OS install.
is this the same as your method? One last thing, under "special methods" you list "physical memory adjustment" seeing how your already using MAXMEM to limit the size of the memory seen by windows what is this tweak doing?

yours 32M score is really great under zero, so yes we can resemble together :D, but me and my Team must use XP :(, give us much better clock for CPU vs. 2k3
Ramdisk version: http://www.ramdisk.tk/
why xp give better clock? I read already somewhere, but I don't understand..
I will try sub 10s 9*570-580fsb, if mobo can..we beated 572FSB yet..

Thank you for a lot of questions.
I'll answer the questions as much as possible.
10x for posting some of your tweaks, I'm very interested in ram disk tweaking, by your opinion how much seconds is gain on 3600mhz (your excellent result) if spi directory is on ram disk or on hdd? I suppose you are using eram?

Hello, Misko-san.
I tested it.
It increases for about five seconds on hdd.
And i am using "ERAM for Windows Ver 2.11".
Thanks so much for tips Newbeetle-san. :toast:
I'm curious about what you mean by "physical memory adjustment." ?
Do you have a link to download Autogear by any chance, and how do you use it? How large is your copy-waza size?
Thanks very much again!
Hello, Gautam-san,
When i adjust physical memory more under Windows, I use "MemEat" that reduces physical memory.
However, the effect is a little (about 0.5-1.0 second).
Look at this picture. if you are interested in it (Sorry in Japanese).
http://homepage2.nifty.com/NewBeetle/Mem Adjustment.png
And a link to download Autogear is here.
http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dl/win95/util/se293319.html
But i don't explain it well, please see the image and understand what kind of software it is.
http://homepage2.nifty.com/NewBeetle/Autogear.png
My Copy-Waza size is "MAXMEM size + 100-200MB".
But, this size is not the best, and try variously, please.
First, Only I was 2 days offline, and I see lot of new post:toast:
Hello, NewBeetle-san!:)
This tweaks works well under win xp or win 2003?
Because I get faster spi if I used ramdisk for Spi 1M under win 2003.

Hello, over@locker886-san.

Hello, Johnny Bravo-san.
I understand what you say and your question is very reasonable.
First question,
I think MAXMEM shows the effect by combining with COPY-WAZA.
My Copy-Waza size is "MAXMEM size + 100-200MB".
Without MAXMEM, Copy-Waza size will be very large.
And there is no difference in MAXMEM tweaking itself.
Second question,
I use the tool named "MEMEAT" to adjust the physical memory more in detail after physical memory is roughly adjusted with MAXMEM.
However, the effect is a little (about 0.5-1.0 second).
I'm sorry I can't explain well any more.

just want to thank you guys for this thread. it has helped me find tweaks for getting the best possible pi time and also for setting goals to achieve at clockspeeds. i'm trying to see if i can break the 13minute barrier with 3.65 or less ghz on my 6600. so far i've been able to tweak down from 14m10s to 13m25s at 3.6. only 25 more seconds! lol.
@Johnny - thanks for this analysis you did.

Andre your results seem to be the product of CPU-Z fluctuation's rather than actual efficiency.
For example in the 16.XX category Gautam would not normally beat your time by .45 of a second by simply increasing his 'clocks' by .3 mhz.
The point of this thread is to measure efficiency not to take advantage of the CPU-Z clock variances.
;)
^^ :nono: We're having fun here. The point of the thread is to get under the minute with the lowest clock speed. .1mhz less is lower.

I dunno about this though, that 14.xx was damned hard. My ram is capable of the big speeds, rather the mobo starts binding around 650 it seems. How to pull off a 32M at 660 is just beyond my comprehension. Everything has gotta be in place and oldscarface has definitely got it. :p:
Too bad Gautam didn't send me his rig while he was in India....I still have our good install from our 5.4GHz LN2 run (though I think it wants me to activate by now...hrmmm).
Heh, depending on how things pan out perhaps you can have another go with this stuff. :D
c.h.r.i.s- the Commando is supposed to have better vdimm regulation than the P5B. I too cannot 32M well at higher than 2.65v or so...have you tried lower vdimms than on the P5B? The vdimm drop/droop should be less on the commando compared to the p5b.
Oh and btw, sub-10 can be done at about 4920-4940MHz with today's hardware if anyone so pleases...I can assure you of that. ;)
andre X_X
05-16-2007, 03:35 AM
me too cant run spi @ >2.65v vdimm, between 2.6v and 2.7v it seems too little gain in rams mhz... for me 2.45-2.55v on p5b was the best for ram benching. lowered the NB voltage also helps stability.
coop, tried maxmem 485, 512, or 600. set affinity to Core 1 for spi. and then copy wazza with 2.4gb works perfect. in my P5B boot at Trfc = 35 was faster than 25. one thing, Use XPLite (edit with nlite).

Welcome fredyama. Nice post. Very efficient. I spent a couple hours after I saw it trying to get closer to 3600. Needless to say I won't be updating my time.

no copy waza (can't get it to work) or maxmem tweaks

I just copy about 700MB, which consists of a bantch of small files from C(OS partition) to D(Data partition) three times with Maxmem=600;)

Fred-san's score truly is something else. Trying to catch up to it...getting there...glad to have made it into the 12:55.xx range though.
It's by competing with such beautifully done scores that one learns best. :)

A bit more tighter memory setting, you will get the best time for sure;)
In that case, somehow have to recover the result in my dead HDD.
It was once run with the exact memory setting as Core36GP@tanuki (http://premium1.uploadit.org/fredyama//P5BDlx-E6600-Air-Team9600-FSB400-ERAM-1.625Vcore-1.997Vnb-2.751Vdimm-ModPI8M-2m42.437s-3608.6MHz.gif)
Cannot remember what time really got but it was a better time, hopefully:D
Right after that 36GP result, my memory is no longer able to run with the tighter timing though:(

i know this isn't as good as the top of the heap with your fancy 600MHz 4-4-4 memory ;) but the Abit QuadGT does alright with only 518MHz 4-4-4. if i can make this board run 450x8 w/4:5 then i might be joining the sub 13m 3600MHz club...how did you do it Coop?

Very tight timings there
Funny you mention that though, seems like my memory is already damaged. :( several runs at those timings and 2.7 V. :p:
3ho6: 1 wouldn't complain, I can't catch any of the good 1:1 or 4:5 results in this thread. :)
3oh6, that is the same speed I had and same 7x518 iirc, before I did 4/5. I also used smaller waza file (730mb) and moved it 3 times, per fredyama (thank you) with 600 maxmem. I have H20 NB and cpu as well on my QuadGT plus volt mods. However the board has so much range available that the only v-mod I really use is vmch. 1.83v and it may not be needed. That is just what it is at 1.7 bios. I also boot at lower and C-gen er uguru up. I tried alot but can't go any lower and still make the 12.xx.
@ Gautam, you are already at the top. Great run with 12.55 though.

excellent to hear...thank-you very much for the info. i guess the first order of business when i get back from holidays is to volt mod this little guy and see what i can make it do.
just curios, what is the highest FSB you have been able to run 32M on your board with the extra NB volts? i am hoping to eventually get 550~560FSB for some 5GHz benching on it...if i have to chill the NB i will i guess. with just the Noctua NC-U6 and NB volts maxed in BIOS, i was able to easily bench at 534x9 last dry ice session but not a sinlgle tick more.
I did 7x530 at one time. http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/3319/32m12583710kz7.th.jpg (http://img473.imageshack.us/my.php?image=32m12583710kz7.jpg) It was no problem in the sense that I just ran it. I was working on this the last couple times I was using it. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=205077 Tonight I'm going to try 9x489 90 or so an see if it is any easier. My AW9D Max is faster for Pi. (at least 1/1) Now that I have water cooler for NB and better ram I'm getting ready to change back. If I can just get the dividers to work as well as this board it may give me some better times.
Edit: the aw9d is fsb challenged though.

@eva2000, did you use that cpu on a 965 board? Can you compare this board to the others at same speed, or does it just allow for higher FSB?
For everyone, if you are submitting entries and using a P35 chipset board please include like a memset or cpu-z shot so I can tell. Some request have been made to include chipset in the list on page 1. I will start to update existing, maybe, or just start from now on.

Oh $#!t, very impressive eva. I think that is the highest ranked Quad. The reason I asked about the board, they have P5K E at store here. I went to get one but misread the ad. I thought it was a deluxe since it had wifi. I was not aware of the E model. After reading about them though they are almost the same sans some pwm heatsinks.:D I think I need to get clock'n.

That's nice stuff eva, p35 looks really fun. I won't be able to resist forever. :p:
How about lowering tRFC, 30 is up there, and ras to cas write delay of 2 or 3 never seemed to hurt stability for me.
I can't run below tRDWR 8 on anything crucial though. All those weird ram dividers must be really convenient.
