Does having artefacts while youa re benching actually lower the score than pushing your card far as she goes without artefacts?

It can go either way. Many times it will reduce the score..but on occasion it will create an abnormally high score. The best scoring runs are made when just on the threshold of artifacting, inotherwards...no artifacting at all...but pushed right to the limit.:)

Thank you for such a fast reply. My score seems to go up the more artefacts I get without locking up of course.
Speaking of which, is it cool if I join the 3D team?
I could get more than my current score if I had better ram. 333 is holding me back
I am getting water/pelts soon I hope.

well with my card it will artifact at certian clocks. but if im 1 clock higher when it artifacts my score gains a lil even with the artifacting.. but usualy when i get artifacts the longer 3dmark runs the wrose it gets. like in nature, theres usualy none at first then it gets worse and worse by the second.

You need to cool the card down more between runs. Depending on ambient temp, powering off for 2-3 mins works for me. A desk fan blowing on the card is also useful. ;)

Sorry, I misread your post, I thought you meant it gets worse between whole runs of 3dMark.
Still sounds like a heat issue though, the longer the test goes on the hotter the card gets, no? I get exactly the same thing when I push it too far.

It depends on what type of artifacts.
My R8500, due to its special BIOS, produces some weird stuff on the screen that aren't real artifacts....if you get what I mean :p ........it doesn't lower the score at all, but no abnormally high ones either. Btw the abnormally high scores are only with Radeons and Nature....with NVIDIA it's an entirely different one ;) (still abnormally high though)

2 many artefacts will lower your score (ok, 9700 and Nature:D ).
On my 8RDA+ lower the APG bus will reduce artefacts and let me clock higher!

When benching 3d, if you're getting too many artifacts (as in it will lock up) usually you have to let it sit there idle for a while and then go on to the net bench. Sometimes, just one little second of artifacts can give you like 50FPS more on one part than you usually get which really helps your score. So far, I've never suffered from lower scores with artifacts so they're welcome to me :)

Sweet. Thanks for the addition MrIcee. I can only get 14341 marks, but that will improve once I get my new ram and h20 setup. I think I may have hit the wall with this rig as it is currently setup.
I have considered a vmod for my Ti4400, but having trouble finding hard info on the procedure.
