hi.. I've done the VGPU and VMEM mods a few weeks ago. Everything works well, except for 3 components on the PCB that get quite hot. I've attached a pic to this post - can someone plz tell me what those components are (the 1rst one looks like a coil?) and what is the max temp they should have? I have already bought some passive RAM heatsinks to stick on them to help cooling. AFAIK, the 7800GTX has the two upper ones passively cooled too.
Thanks for help

All 3 of the components are coils/inductors. They should be ok to run hot. The only thing that you need to be careful of would be to make sure that their heat doesn't damage the surrounding components, or they don't de-solder themselves. They are just a coil of copper wire, so they shouldn't be effected too badly by heat.

Thanks persivore, I already attached some small passive HS to these components. Nice to know it's nothing to really worry about

Actually, one more question persivore -- the capacitors that you can see on the picture, what max temp are they rated for?
Thanx

They should be rated to -55*c to 105*c :)

Johnny.....can you recall wat were your stocks temps on the 7800GT with stock cooling :) I havent done any mods or setup my waterblock yet somehow I feel my Card has detiorated in terms of Temps and stability...... :stick:
The lowest I am gettin idling in 2D mode with stock cooling is 54*C

Mine was 72C under load with voltmods on MEM and GPU and 100% fan running, which was a little bit too much. Idle, well, I think around 49C, not sure though. With water it's all much cooler.. but stability-wise I don't think the card lost anything, quite the contrary actually. Can you be more specific?
And persivore -- thanx again :)

Do you run your system in a Case and if so, is it enclosed ? I do get about 50*C with an open case :) What I mean by stability is I used to be able to game for long periods of time with no issues. Now I get accasional hangs and BSODs sayin "NV4.dll sumtin" :stick: The system refuses to acknowledge drivers 81.82 and 81.85 so I am stuck with 78.01 which has proven to be the most suitable for my current rig. I am not sure if this is to do with my 7800GT or crappy AN8 Ultra mobo or WinXp
I will be doin a mobo change (still no friggin sign of Grouper :slapass: ) and then setup the Watercoolin in my sig so hopefully things will become better
