I just got a new pack of OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev.2 v1.0, with lovely TCCD chips :)
Now I was just doing some light testing, 275Mhz 2.5-3-3-6-1T at 2.65V, and I noticed that the heatspreader on one stick is abso-F'ing-lutely burning hot. I can't touch it for more than 2-3 seconds. The other stick is just slightly warm.
My mediocre analog temperature probe, which is not making optimal contact, is registering 120F at the moment.
I always thought TCCD was rather cool running

throw a slow spinning 80mm fan over it, and youll be good to go. some TCCD runs burning hot, some doesnt. it might just be the airflow in your case causing it.

TCCD when performing certain tasks (memtest #5 and #8 for instance) actually run's hotter than BH/CH chips with 3.5V running through them in my experience. They pull more amperage than many IC's do.
Are these running in the DFI? Try swapping them around in the slots (move from orange A to orange B and vice versa)....does the same stick still get hot? I bet not....its probably a slot issue....but maybe not. :)
I highly recommend a fan on them too.....it will improve your clocks. :)

Actually, I'm running an A8N-SLI Premium.
By the way, put the probe on the other stick, and it peaks at 100.8F, big difference!
As far as airflow, it's being run outside of a case at the moment.
I guess I can try to swap slots, see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the quick replies

Yep, you were right.
Switched the sticks, and the "cool" stick went up to 125F.
Wonder why there's such a big difference between slots, and whether it affects overclocking...

I have the same issue.. My OCZ Rev.2 probably glows red with the lights out, even with 2.6V, but my BH5 with 3.7 volts is barely luke-warm to the touch. surprising..
was running my corsair 3200xl at 466 until i checked the temps. ive slowed them down out of sympathy until i get some extra fans in there. they were DAMN hot.

my first set of Rev2 when it came out was running REALLY hot. Second/actual run cool even @ 2.8v. Maybe a bad heatspreader contact
I have my 2x256 Geil One at 312 MHz 3-4-4-8 as we speak and they certainly don't get hot (finger test). I'll hook up a sensor.
If only one stick is so warm and the other is not, I'd say switch the slots and see whether it is slot-related. Theoretically, heat from the CPU could radiate over. Or one slot could overvolt.
My old EL platinum rev2 got 52C on the heatspreader measured by a taped on sensor, so the actual temperature was probably even higher.
This was with 2.8V and during memtest test 5 and 6 without a fan over them.

I would think that if they were hot then the heatspreader is doing its job by getting hot as well and you would conclude that there is good heat transfer :stick:
TCC5 is slightly different (if thats what you have) and that could be why. TCCD gets very hot most of the time because of the amount of juice it sucks up.

ahmad,
TCC5 and TCCD are one and same chip binned to different spec.

My tccd's don't run hot at all, I can place my finger on them and i wouldn't even notice my comp is on.

TCCD will indeed get hot. A fan on TCCD and BH/CH is pratically a need when overclocking. TCCD have very high amperage compared to other chips... A main reason why they get hot.
My OCZ Platinum ran incredibly hot...yet definitely put a fan over it..just to be safe :)
(It ran hotter then my VX whoa!)

My Geil ONE Samsung TCCD also hot like hell at 2.6vdimm only. It is far hotter than my TwinMos SP at 3.5vdimm.

Weird, I wonder where I ever got the impression that they were cool running :p:
Anyways, one problem down, one to go.
290Mhz 2.5-3-3-6-1T @ 2.7V - Memtest A-OK (Haven't tested higher)
285Mhz 2.5-3-3-6-1T @ 2.7V - System reboots before Windows finishes loading.
275Mhz 2.5-3-3-6-1T @ 2.7V - SuperPI Rounding Error
Probably going to make another thread after I've gathered all the info I need.

sounds like a cpu voltage problem to me. Give it more juice if your cooling can handle it.

Ooh, spoke too soon, at 3 Hours and 7 minutes, I got 2 errors in Memtest at 290Mhz 2.5-3-3-6-1T Trc=12 Trfc=14 Trwt=2 Twr=2 at 2.7V
Cpu voltage? Can't be...
Running at 8x275= 2.2Ghz, I've got a Venice 3000+ APAW0517 here. I can undervolt and run that ;)
