View Full Version : Challenge to TCol. and LBM

Thursday, lets see which sub-team can produce the most, NO buffering, dump whatever you have buffered on wednesday and start from scratch thursday. and this will go for all of us, no new mergers on thursday, since that screws up stats. The winner can get some kind of prize, recognition, or something.

im up for suggestions on that.

we are going all out on that day without buffering, so be ready for it. i could say what i think our totals might be around, but that wouldn't be any fun. :D

If you want to accept the challenge, then post back. either way, we are going all out thursday.

you should be going all out every day....

LBM isn't a "sub team". All of our computers are under the same roof, so it seemed redundant to have to have 2 seperate names.

It's pretty well known what we are gonna do... same thing we do everyday... somewhere between 2100 - 2300.

ex2cib
10-17-2005, 10:44 PM
well, some of the guys on our team dont run theirs @ night, or buffer a little, so im just saying thursday lets see who can do the most

Vapor
10-17-2005, 10:44 PM
We're doing some special buffering for Wednesday, which will effect both Tuesday and Wednesday....plus we may add members between now and then. Some of us are also making sure our hardware is at it's max and are testing newer settings....that's why we're not going all out production right now.

And as ex2cib said, not all of us run it overnight.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the... what? 7 or 8+ of you with your 55 nodes can out crunch the duo that is LBM. :kitten:  :fight:

Only 9 of our 23 nodes actually produce anymore. :(

Vapor
10-17-2005, 11:13 PM
There would be 9 of us right now :D

Yeah, we're working on getting our output up but a lot of our nodes are much slower systems or simply not running any more. Mind you, we're college students, we don't have dedicated DX crunchers, just what systems (no matter how good or bad they are) we have access to. Anyway, we'll see Thursday which team is best :D

Cheers.

I think I brought at least 15 nodes, maybe 20, but only 6 or 7 of them are producing. I never backed up my node.php, so whenever I would reinstall it, I would get a new node.

Absolute_0
10-18-2005, 12:06 AM
I also brought a dead node + my active 2.

dont forget guys, tomorrow is thursday, lets see who can get the biggest piece of pie

shmaa
10-19-2005, 05:47 PM
So how do we know what you guys do tomorrow is actually your daily output? I've never seen what you guys do without someone joining... I say do it tomorrow.. then you have to back it up Friday.

Absolute_0
10-19-2005, 05:49 PM
tomorrow we will be producing normally, no one joining, no buffers, thursday should be 100% capacity

fair enough.. whats our margin of error shmaa?

within how many cands each day to we have to be for the LBM to consider it legit.

10-19-2005, 06:29 PM
+/- 300 cans

ex2cib
10-19-2005, 06:35 PM
after we get done doing this, we could actually list all our rigs, and figure out how much crunching power we have.

bullet2urbrain
10-19-2005, 06:52 PM
i'd rather not.. list what power we have.. cuz there are some X Factors in this.

+/- 300 shouldnt be too tough..granted among 10 people thats only 30 cand difference..

but i think we should be fair in this and not go OC'ing everything we got.

UPDATE ONE - 12:05 AM CST - Free-DC stats
Ranking/Total cands | last update | Change(ranking)
1. LBM-137....................+137..................n/a
2. XSCM-100.................+100..................n/a
3. XSTCol-15..................+15...................n/a

LBM is off to an early start, but can they hold on to their lead over the XSCM? XSTCol will likely make a statement in a few hours.

ill update it again in one hour(1am) If anyone is up later than that, please update it hourly, as i want to go to sleep :). you can use my same format.

i mean i would REALLY like to have someone update this hourly. I dont care if it is someone who's not a member of the team, just go check the Free-dc stats and at least post the current totals of the teams and the time you checked the stats (put time zone in please). im going to make a few graphs later for comparisons.

how long has your rig been out of it vapor?

Vapor

Since 3AM CST or so....trying a 0% OC right now and it's still unstable.

Windows stays up long enough to do .5-1 cand and then crashes....then when I restart it uploads that one cand but I've done next to nothing so far....it's a shame.

[KoG]^weaZel
10-20-2005, 08:38 AM
it sounds like the install got borked because of an unstable OC. I had to do a reinstall yesterday on my 840 because the d2ol was borked.
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. We may have to run this challenge again when everyone is firing on all eight cylinders. :D

shmaa
10-20-2005, 08:41 AM
So how exactly do your sub teams work? Does everyone have the password to the D2OL account?

Call me paranoid, but I personally would not give the password to 480,000 cands to someone I don't know

Too much time, money, and effort at stake. :(

Just backing stuff up in the 3 minute minute chunks that Windows gives me now...then I'm gonna reinstall and see what I can produce in 1.5 days (well, I'll probably buffer for the last part of tomorrow to avoid going over by more than 300).

1. Maybe do something that will ultimately save someone (maybe one of us someday  )

2. Tenderize :slapass: :hammer: us some :cow: meat!!!! :woot:

So WE WILL HAVE MORE OF THESE CHALLENGES (and even MORE media support, etc (Perkam and especially Fugger ?))
So that we can get the torpid masses EXCITED and CRUNCHING AGAIN!

ex2cib
10-20-2005, 10:47 AM
we know it should be everyday, but sometimes i like to give my rig a break, let it cool down a little, lol. also cool down my room some, and not have to worry about those bright blue case lights for a night of good sleep. But also having a challenge like this, is good publicity for the team, im sure we have had at least a few people come in and read about our team from Perkam's link on the front page.

this is looking good so far for all teams. my auto update is coming within 30 minutes. when this thing first began, i had the SARS IV candidate....it took that thing about 40 minutes to finish....thats the longest i have ever spent on a candidate that i know of.

and to shmaa, we might have to remove that +/- 300 thing or say you have to be no less than 300 away from your thursday's total on friday. If vapor gets his X2 back up and running, that's 300 right there. :)

just for a comparison purpose my 840EE is at 52-54c under D2OL. I do have to say this is the hottest running cpu of my herd. One thing to note is that just two of the three fans on the radiator are running. Just noticed this yesterday when doing some work on the machine.

SO for Mikee to be running in the 30s is great.

Absolute_0
10-20-2005, 11:56 AM
With good watercooling i find the fans on teh radiator don't make a huge difference. I run 24/7 with the fans at ~30%. I can completely unplug a fan and my temps don't change more than 1 degree. But Weazel, i think 53C load is pretty good for a P4 at 3.7 Ghz, i have worked with a pressy and know that they run hot, but they can also take the heat better than AMDs can i think.

I just got some AS5 in the mail about an hour ago. I put it on, and since I've taken off the IHS, but the xp-90 didn't make contact, because the socket is in the way, I put the IHS back on, but I wasn't sure it was making good contact, so I put some more AS5 on the core. Now my a64 rig won't start. spinning fans for a second, but it won't start. :(

I want to make something clear ......LBM is not a sub team as of the moment. 2 people 1 apartment and whole lot of damn computers. Hardly a sub team .... I would like to state we would like to removed from this challenge cause it hardly seems fair ..... more like renaming new sub teams challenge top team members .... such as us, conrad, windforce, jikdoc, big deel, rod and the almighty DDtung. I dont understand why we got the sub team label ? I did do some joking around about it, but as of now we just got me and shmaa. The error patterns were what were concerning me that maybe it's not the memory but rather the board--no errors in tests 1-3, 5 at any previously stable speed and errors in 4, 6+ didn't get worse with more speed. I'm busy this weekend but I'll definitely play with it next week maybe I'll "have to" order a CF-DR :D

Species 8472 were discovered by the Borg—who were unable to assimilate them—in 2373. I know how to immedately force a flush (usually) , but not how to schedule w/ any accuracy. The is a file you can adjust to be less than the 360 min (6hr) limit, but that is still dependent on when a cand. is done for the flush to start, and that can be a big window....

Intriguing time to make that announcement

First reply to the thread.

LBM isn't a "sub team". All of our computers are under the same roof, so it seemed redundant to have to have 2 seperate names.

Sometimes I feel like no one even reads what I post.

But whatever. I was dicussing the thread with my roommmate (UCmajewski if that isn't clear yet) and we were both lost trying to figure out where the whole subteam title came from. We were just 2 people living in the same place acting effectively as 1 person (some of the rigs are built from parts owned by both of us, mixed together for the cause)

Shmaa I think the reason why the sub-team came up was that there is more than one XS member which speaks for LBM. So it would be easy to see that if more than one person speaks for a D2OL member name it could be misconstrued. Well that is my take on it at least.

The potential of The Collective grows every day, Weazel is one part of that team :), and therefore one aspect of that potential. The team is nothing without all of its facets, hence no one is more important than the other. Same can be said about the XS Team. ;)

If anyone is making the right move, it's XSCM and XSTC. You guys are turning it up a notch and have inspired me to look elsewhere for recruits. I have one PM that I just received from another forum I frequent. I'm getting ready to leave the office now so I'll answer his questions when I get home.

I took everything out of the case, to see if one of the standoffs was shorting the mobo out, but it still acted the same way. Do you think it would do that if I got some AS5 on one of the packs? Either that, or hitting the top of one of the DIMM slots with a screwdriver, only put a tiny ding in it. I switched out RAM to the other channel, so I don't think it's the DIMM slot. I'm going to try to find another person around that might have an a64 rig. almost everyone that I know has a Dell. :shakes: Maybe I'll have to see if they are interested in d2oling. I think I'm going to let one of my friends borrow my 6800GT while my rig is down, cause he's interested in buying one. Maybe I'll have to load d2ol up while I'm loading drivers and everything. :D

Xcept for the trials of Dragon's FX :( (stupid question, can you get a cheap A64 and try it in the board? )

One core of my machine keeps stopping D2OL so I am going to try to nail that down over the weekend.

I don't care where we get cands from: here, somewhere else, etc.

Conrad - COOL avatar
I have been asking people @ work w/ tepid results, and so am impressed about the fact that Conrad has someone possibly lined up already.

I still think some of us should try to get some of the 'dead' nodes reproducing (Heck we got so many of them). This should be of course just one of many directions we need to go. There's enough of us to do that and see who we can drag in from wherever :D.

I also think we can use more of these 'challenges' to drum up cands, and am for more of them . (Heck I didn't care where we ended up, the fun was in the banter & Playup b4hand :D )

Perkam does great as morale booster, newman and marketing dept. doesn't he! :D I'm glad he's on our (XS/TheCollective(Dang that would have been an even better name (wonders about will the '/' be legal char, will the guys go for it (NEVER MIND!))))

I've rambled enough, back to work and though the PCs hopefully never tire, I for one am looking forward to a good nite's sleep whilst cuddling next to my wife :buddies:

I wish I could....my board is dead :(

I can't replace it for about a week either...we'll see how much I can get done this week (I'm hoping for 300/week from my X2 at this point) with low uptimes.

Anyway, it was a good fight, glad I could at least throw a punch at the end :D

Don't you mean every couple of days :eh:, them's is GOOD CHIPSNope...board's dead and it doesn't have enough uptime for more than 50 a day from what I can tell :(

When the board was good (two days ago), it would do around 305 a day with moderate usage.

I'd love to get a cheap a64, but I've only got $50 in the bank. Not much to work with. :(

If you get another $50 plus shipping from Cincinnati to Lancaster... I know a really cool guy that wants to sell a S939 3000+ :D

Actually, lancaster is where my parents live, I'm going to school in Marion, Indiana. Do you think he would accept $50 and 2x256 Corsair old bh-5? It did 250+ 2-2-2-5 at 3.3v for MrNuke.

That cool guy happens to be me

I would need cash only as I would need to replace the chip. I am in no hurry, and if you think you can come up with the money at any point in time then you officially have dibs on the chip.

If you want to work out anything further we should probably take it to PM so no one says I'm selling outside the for sale forum... which I can post it up in there... DO can call dibs.. and we are back to where we started ;)

I'll have to see if I can get my parents to send me $50, as I don't have time to have a job, being a nursing major and all. I'll get back to you on your generous offer.

btw, it is an E3 venice... but it is not a very good overclocker. I run D2OL on it at 2.5ghz @ 1.55V.
