Well, i attached it toally not how it said in the manual. I took the soft "bracket" and put it in the back of the motherboard, then i just screwed the screws in from the back of the motherboard and put the nuts from the top.... (couldnt get a screwdriver in there lol) I also replaced the fan with a 70cfm yate loon (D12SM-12) and lapped the HS before i put it on.

A few questions.... it seems pretty stable... did i do something very wrong? :)
Also I have two cooldrive 6s ... they are hdd coolers + fan controllers/temp readers, where should i tape my leads onto for my CPU and GPU temps? on the HSF?

Thanks guys... i know these are noob questions :(

Well, nothing's beeping or smoking... how wrong could it be?

You didn't mention putting any thermal paste or anything though... ;)

ugh... that's a whole other story... don't ask :)

i cleaned the cpu with a friggin 50% isopropyl solution (as opposed to more pure one) i put on like 2 yr old as5 and when i put it on the HS i cleaned it with a paper towel (didnt have a coffee filter) not to mention that i touched the friggin heatsink a billion times with my hands and put some FANTASTIC kitchen cleaner to moisten the sandpaper when lapping it and i didnt even dry it with a fan after.... yes i know :)

about the beeping and smoking... i'm pretty far from turning the computer on still... CABLE MANAGEMENT IN A P180 IS RIDICULOUS! ... i mean WOW

any answer to the thermal sensor location question yet?

thanks all

i think by wednesday i should be able to try it and will definitely post everything with pictures =)

about the computer specs i can tell you now...

x2 3800
dfi ultra d
2GB PC4000EB OCZ
OCZ Powerstream 520W
P180 case
Big typhoon (obviously)
BFG 7800GTX OC
80GB Raptor
2X250GB hitachi SATA II drives
bunch of other crap you're not interested in :)

so yea... hope it works out well

Can someone please recommend a good place to put temperature sensors for CPU and GPU? thanks

I am also running X2 3800+ + Big Typhoon + DFI Ultra-D. Getting 50C dual-prime @ 2.7 GHz & 1.65V. Trying to burn in the chip, because 2.7 GHz isn't 100% stable so far. One of the primes crashes about an hour or so.

cool... i'm not going to go above 1.55 I think, i'm perfectly happy with 2.6 :)

yes, i think 1.65 is also too much for air.
i would recomend not going above 1.55 on air

this happens to me when one of the cores need a notch more voltage (1.675v)

of course...assuming temps dont make u unstable...what fan are u using?

I know a guy who put Sempron on 1,934V on air with BOX cooler :D. Nothing happend, whatsoever, it worked, but just for taking some pics at 3,0Ghz. That proc works just fine even today.

My chip can do 2.6 at a substantially lower vcore than 2.7. I think around 1.525V for 2.6 GHz 100% prime-stable. Temps are also a joke @ around 43-44C then.

Sparxxxy
Why? Temperature is 50C, which is absolutely fine. It's not often this thing is going to get THAT loaded either. If only one core is loaded with 1xPrime95, it's only 40C or so :) I think with the crappy box HSF, it could be easily doing > 50C.

Using the stock fan. There is no reason to upgrade to a high-CFM fan for 1-2C improvement, I think.

Topuz
Well, we are talking about 24/7 here ;)

i think i remember reading ugly and grey changing the fan to something not that much more loud and got a 3-4c difference with a dual core (supposedly less difference for a single core)

Interesting, I had the impression that it was limited by how the heatpipes transfered the heat with a high CFM fan. Linkage to experiments?

I went from the stock, 54cfm fan to another 78 cfm fan and dropped 2 deg on load. Not really yields a whole hell of alot.

i cant find where i read that...but i believe the person who said that said the difference for single core wasnt as sizeable as the difference for dual core (much higher heat load)

looking at ur sig, i assume you're talkin about a single core dnottis?

yah, I believe that was UnG that was talking about the dualie.

Yeah that was me, I didn't find much difference on a single core proc (one degree yay).. On a dual core the BT seems to really be the cat's meow. I dropped 6c immediately. This was a xp90c with 110cfm fan vs BT with it's quiet 54cfm. Changing the BT fan to ~100cfm dropped me another 2c, but wasn't worth the noise. I assume at that point I was limited by the actual airflow inside my case. Of course it all works cooler sitting on a carboard box than in my low noise case. lol...

I've seen others try puttinga powerful fan on the BT and arriving at the conclusion that 1-2C drop is not worth it as well.

make sure they are talkin about dual cores oc'ed like UnG is talkin about
