Hi all,
Well Im back after a long absence dureing which I never actually got my new machine built at all due to many many problems both computer wise and otherwise takeing over.
But now I feel I actuly want to get the final bits of the machine together(Case,HD and Optical drive respectivly) and actuly build this thing.
The only problem is I got a Asus P5ND2-SLi pretty much the day it was released for my build(Along with the Corsair 5400UL and a P4 640), and it would seem in the intervening months since its release people have discovered that this mobo sucks to put it mildly.
So what do i do ? .. do I start the build on this and hope it works or go for a diffrent Intel mobo .. prehaps a Intel 955 based one and try and sell this thing ? as i do still intend on doing some OCing im thinking i may be better off with option 2 from what ive read.. is the Asus realy that bad though ?

You said it Mr.
Excpet ASUS is the best Intel platform MoBo when paired with none other than an Intel core logic, just like VIA and SiS the nForce 4 SLI-IE is one bad tasteless joke from nVidia, that's the reason why the 975X will support SLI........although they should start writing driver codes for the 955X. Replace that P.O.S. C-19 with a (ASUS) 955X immediately.

Looking up prices it would seem the Asus 955x's are a little pricey(cant realy afford to spend buckets of cash to replace a mobo that itself cost buckets of cash) what about Abit's AL8 ?

Seems the retailer I was looking at miss typed the AL8 as haveing 955X when its a 945X board.

Cheapest 955X boards I can find at the moment are the Abit AW8 and the Gigabyte 8I955X Pro, anyone have any experience with these overclocking wise ?

Hey! when you sell your P5ND2-SLI you're going to have more than half a bucket of money to buy a P5WD2-Premium.
Anyhow, the AW8 and the P5WD2-P are the two I've seen people getting good OC'ing results. Can't say I've seen anyone with a GIGABYTE but I will guess they're good OC'er boards as well.
Depending on how much you'd like to spend, go for the one that would fit your budget.
Although if you're not going to OC pass 275fsb then go for the ASUS P5LD2-Deluxe 945P which should cost a little less.

Have a laptop on the way, and need to order a HD for that, also may be getting a PSP to oh and a case, dvdrw and hd for the new system of corse so cant realy afford to get a uber expensive mobo right now, just couldnt justify it more then actuly lack of money realy.. what with all the other stuff im buying/have bought lately.
Will have a look around and see if i can find the Asus mobos cheaper though.

Read a bunch of reviews of boath the AW8 and the P5WD2-P.
In one of the reviews for the P5WD2-P it mentions this though-
"Overclocking with the P5WD2 Premium and the ECT Mach II turned out to be a frustrating, but productive experience. First, the board suffers from a slight flaw with the chipset voltage. When the board is overclocked past a certain point, it will no longer warm boot, instead shutting itself down for 2-3 seconds before rebooting. This causes a serious problem for the Mach II in that its sensor sees the board shut down, and then tries to shut down the cooler. What ends up happening is that the Mach II suffers an error. By resetting the board, it blows the fuse in the Cooler......whew......big headache. I came across a solution on another forum where a user soldered a 6.3 capacitor on the board. This actually worked for me to a point, but even then, this didn't totally remove the issue. After hitting about 250-255 on the FSB, the warm boot issue reappeared"
That to me doesnt sound to good.
And the AW8 apears to have a layout issue -
"The layout did create one issue, however, when removing a larger GeForce 6800GT Video card. Although the space surrounding the main PCI-e slot appeared to be sufficient, when we attempted to remove the card we found that three caps, seen in the picture above, prevented us from accessing the retention clip.In fact, it was not even possible to see the clip, and we had to go to the backside of the 6800GT, and try to push down the clip using a screwdriver. This worked, but had we slipped when applying pressure on the small bit of the clip we could push on, untold damage to components nearby could have occurred."

you wont be dissapointed. And from the looks of that review, it looks like it was overclocked by some n00b who doesnt have a clue of what he's doing. Those moBos do like 375 MHz on the FSB easy :D

I couldn't agree more.
Here look at these results (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=416866) when you get someone whom knows what he's doing and how to for overclocking with a P5WD2-Premium. You will never see that on a C-19 which I belive the C stands for "Crap".

the nForce 4 SLI-IE is one bad tasteless joke from nVidia, that's the reason why the 975X will support SLI..I would really like that also, but it doesn't seem like we're that lucky.. NVIDIA Dropping 975X Support and More Yonah Tidbits (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2569)
@S1nner: Good luck with your new mobo :) Hopefully you will get something back for the original one.
