View Full Version : XP MC5 Freezes
It's so weird. I have this old P4 system. Transfered to another case for my bro (using same components except for his Floppy and CD-RW drive). Wiped out the HDD, then reinstall Windows MC05.
It freezes on Video Applications. Now, even after a 3rd fresh install (nothing else). Running Screensavers (aquarium or any other 3D) causes it to freezes. Changed to different video card, still freezes. Changed to good mem sticks, same thing again. Took out his stuff and used back EVERYTHING before, still freezes. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem? Or is it the Windows Application that causes

have you run windows update for all the new patches? What video card do you have? drivers? MIght what to check the list of supported hardware for MC2005 .

I tried everything, After the fresh install (wiped then reinstall), after the update patches (all 40+ whatever)
I tried the Ti4200 8xAGP, then the X800Pro. Both results in the samething. I really don't know what else to do beside installing another copy of windows. :(
Installing the old copy of XP Home. Hope it works.
check over here this a Microsoft newsgroup for MC2005

many of the fixes you have already tried, but it's worth a try.
well now, even with XP Home, it still freezes when playback video? I did run the sandra burn in and it didn't freeze. It's very weird. Like something is seriously wrong with the graphic and 3D area, but it's not the video card?
seems like the HDD is the culprit. I put back my 120GB ATA100 that i had in the system, ran video fine for 20 min, screen saver fine for 10-15 min. put back the 30GB ATA33, same problem. I don't think the HDD is bad, just that it's too slow to keep up????

nice work! glad you solved the problem :)
well, the oiginal ata133 HDD still freezes. So I don't know what's the cause. It freezes more often when I turn it upside down and doing files transfer. But when it let it sits for a while. it doesn't for a long time, but still freezes upon playing videos. So I have no idea what it is. switch vid cards again, but still the same :(
I think I got it. It's not the HDD but the CMOS battery instead. Ran fine last night. Will Try again later today. :)
