Hey all,

This is my first post in XS but have been reading for a while now. I was just curious if some of you p5wd2 premium owners out there could give me any tips or suggestions about the board as I don't think i've managed to bring out it's full potential.

The setup I have is in my signature and it runs really great I was just curious of a few things in preticular to help me really bring around the performance.

I've been reading for a while now and I guess the 955 boards don't support Sli unless they're the nforce editions? I've also read somewhere that the 66.xx drivers will register SLi but that the newer ones wouldn't. But while reading about the latest bios it mentions that it has support for 2 different brand cards to run in sli? I've got the "newest" bios, 519 on the board but can't seem to get SLi to work at all. Then I read that you need to switch the second pcie slot to run at 4x (fastest) but I get no luck with that either. Sorry if it's something stupid that i'm missing to enable this but would really like to be able to run SLi with this board.

Also, was really wanting to run the chip higher than 250fsb as i've seen lots of people breaking 300 and such. I understand that most of those are under vapo or nice water but wanted to see everything I could get out of the 640 with zalman9500 and so far i'm having trouble breaking 265 without heating up too much. I'm currently looking to get a custum lian li v2000 case done with vapo in bottom (if you know anyone that can make the mod happen i'd definitly like to get some work done) so that I can reach the 300fsb mark with this board.

What kinda voltages are good for air? I've got running at 1.6v at the moment and hasn't given me any problems but I get the feeling I might be feeding it too many volts for what it's running.

Also any other tips or tricks in the bios that any of you might know to help me get more performance would be awsome as well.

Oh, and one last thing if any of you are looking to sell your higher end 6 series chip (660/670) i'm looking to pick one up, would love to get my hands on an ES.

Anyways let me know what you all think and help a n00b out with his P5WD2.

Thanks!

I have the same little overclocking issue, I can get it as high as 265fsbx14 and I get a CMOS error when I set it to 270, so if you ask me I think water is needed for a 300. I used "auto" for voltage when I got it to 250x14 but I will never go higher than 1.48V on air or never higher than for that matter. I got 250x14 on stock voltages.

Currently SLI will not work on the P5WD2-Premium but I'm hoping some day it will. You can read this article: READ HERE; 955X + SLI (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Nasgul/955XSLI.jpg)

You can set your 640 with a x14 multi now, with the 0519 you head to the CPU features and set the Intel SpeedStep to "minimal" and C1E diasbled and you're set to a x14 multi, just like my 650 does, just don't pay attention to the AIBooster becasue it reports the correct x14 muti but the wrong speed the CPU is running at.

I think for a 300fsb it is best to set your RAM at a 1:1 ratio, the 8000UL can do that at 4-3-3-4 1.8v or 2.1v.

Awsome, thanks for the info. I had heard that the multi was unlocked on 6 series before I bought but didn't sem it was true. Had read about the 14x multi but thought that was only on the smithfieild's. Gonna go play around thanks for tips!

So far so good, was able to bench at 290fsbx14 with memory at 1:1 4.3.3.4 worked pretty sweet.

Just curious though, when it comes to gaming what becomes more valuable, the tighter lower bus or the looser timings with higher bus?

Also, what kinda voltages have you guys played with at what speeds? Just wanna make sure i'm not over/under doing it.

And what's the deal with the programs like ai booster, ai probe, and update? Are they safe to use? I understand that booster sometimes mis-reads things but using it to oc the system is alright? Or should I look into something like clockgen or just learn to love rebooting? How accurate is the ai probe? I seem to get different readings from booster and probe, but wouldn't they be using the same way to measure the heat?

Thanks for all your patience and understanding in helping a n00b learn.

I would think that memory should do a LOT better than that, at only 300fsb 1:1 it should run 3-2-2-5 easily.

Cool i'll give it a try to see. Don't suppose you have any more ES chips you'd want to sell?

Here are a couple of shots of timings that I run with my OCZ, your memory should do at least as well. I don't sell any of my ES cpus, when I get done with them I send them back and get different ones... sorry.

Are those clocks on air? Just curious as I might be picking up a 660/670 and curious how well it could do.

Also, what is a good guide for how many volts to feed the chip?

Those are on some really crappy water cooling. The 4.7 was on 1.5v and the 4.8 was 1.6v.... these boards overvolt at idle.

Got my 670 tonight, totally psyched. I hope I can break 4.6ghz stable. I'll get back with results later tonight.

Any tips and suggestions with the 670?

I'm trying to work on getting vapo installed in v2000 lian li atm. But that seems like it might be distant? For now it's under zalman 9500cu. Have a DD watercooling setup, but I really don't like to hassle with the fluids with as much as I take it apart. So for now i'm working on getting the vapo thing worked out, but if you guys know anybody lemme know, especially somebody local to the DFW area to avoid shipping.

Also, any thoughts about 1gb compared to 2gb kit? Woth it for gaming especially? But what kinda timings can you get out of ddr2 2x1gb compared to the price you have to pay.

Any P5WD2 owners out there with 6xx chips, disable or enable "execute disable bit" in cpu options for high as possible and stable cpu overclocks?

What's everyone's thoughts on the intel based nforce 4 boards? What kinda oc have they seen?

I've got these 2 darn gtx's but with this board I can only use one and that's starting to really frustrate me.

EDIT: Think i'm gonna order a P5N32-SLI Deluxe and see how that does.

I didn't quite get it. Disable or enable it for high oc's?

Sorry, should have expressed myself better - :stick:

should that option be enabled or disabled for high stable oc's ?
