View Full Version : How will a 20 to 24 pin adapter affect my overclock(AN8 Ultra)
I am upgrading to an Abit AN8 Ultra and I would have to use a 20 to 24 pin adapter for my current PSU. Dos Anyone know how this will affect my overclockability. This is going on a -40C chiller btw, and I am wanting to get this board ASAP.
Current:
3700+ SD
Ultra-x Connect 500W(one of the good ones, very stable rails)
MSI Neo2 Plat.
6800GT AGP(getting a PCI-e one)
G. Skill LE tccd

Not needed. Waste of money. Won't do anything for you.

Isn't the AN8 a 24 pin Mobo?? I can't just hook up my 20 pin PSU to a 24 pin board.

Yes, you can. The extra 24 pin connector is keyed to accept the 20- or 24-pin power connectors in the right position and only the right position. Trust me.
Don't worry I trust you. Thanks. Believe me I'm not as big of a noob as you may think.

Yes, no problem. Did it myself on the DFI LP NF4 SLI.

To make money selling them? Perhaps some motherboard makes will design a board such that it needs the extra pins connected to work properly.

The electrical load on the board will still be redistributed to more lanes.
I get my best overclocks with my Zalman 400B PSU which needs an adapter. With a good quality adapter there shouldn't be too much trouble.
