im looking to get a computer in about a month and my budget will be about 2000$
im pretty much looking to get top of the line everything, the onlything thats not rly top of the line here is the cpu which im hoping to overclock to about 3ghz. let me know what you think.

I'd go with a better video card, either a 7800GTX or an X1800 XL/XT depending on where prices are in a month. I'd definitely go with the 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix for $306 from the Egg, and I'd be careful with the Opterons, the new steppings aren't overclocking nearly as well. Other than that it looks fine.

i love the
?
next to the opteron 144.... join the club dude
the rest looks good, similar to what i'm doing... i found a BFG 7800GTOC for about 330 though... just a couple bucks cheaper than the eVGA, if the deal is gone by the time i get my cash together, i'll probably get the eVGA

@HiJon89-well im just gunna stay with the gt since its the gtx isnt all that better than the gt for that price difference. and thx so much for the ballistix, i didnt think that they were that cheap.

Yeah, I don't think the price increase justifies the performance gain from GT to GTX, but you did say you want top-of-the-line everything :p:

I wouldn't worry about Vista, the last recommend system specs I saw for it were something like 2GB DDR3 which makes me think it isn't coming out until at least 2007.

don't concern yourself with DRM- and HDCP-compatible monitors. 99.99% of monitors on the market today do not support this spec. Hell as far as I know Dell's 24" and Apple's 20" and 30" Cinema HD displays dont even have support for all that M$ DRM bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:.
Just get whatever monitor is best for you now. If M$ does in fact enforce DRM through monitor recognition in Vista, I can guarantee you it will be hacked and there will be a widely available patch for it on the net within 1 week of Vista's release.
I mean this is Microsoft we are talking about here. A one-armed drunk monkey could hack its way through Windows, regardless of what supposed content protection they have enabled.
