So I'm looking at them and they look fun to play with. Also you can watch the little UMD movies, that's cool. You can use a memory stick to listen to music or view pic's from your digi camera, right?
What else can you do with a psp? Can you record your own UMD discs and watch recorded tv or something??

i have one and its pretty cool. you can't record your own UMD because they dont sell UMD burners OR blank UMD's. With certain hacks that do void the warranty, you can run games that other people made on your PSP via memory stick, and with a large enough memory stick you can emulate PSP games you dont own. Most of the recent firmware patches make this impossible. You can also copy movies and songs to the memory stick

Largest memory stick available right now is 2 GB, and Datel is about to release a hard-drive based 4GB add-on as well.
As far as video goes, you can use utilities like PSPVideo to re-encode your AVI/MPG/whatever into PSP-compatible video files. The native resolution of the PSP is 480x272. There's an article about PSP video here:

www.pspupdates.com
That is the BEST site for the PSP out there. It has tutorials for everything.
IF you have a 1.50 firmware or are willing to downgrade from 2.0 or 2.01 then you can:
-Run homebrew apps(emulators for SNES, NES, Genesis etc.; irc clients; web browsers; homemade games; DJ programs, etc. etc.)
-Change wallpapers
-anything oyu can think of.
The PSP is THE BEST AND MOST VERSATILE multimedia portable in the world. YOu can do just about anything you could ever want to do on a portable and then some. Just read the tutorials on that site about what homebrew is and how to install, get a couple progs on you computer and you are up and running. Believe me, the PSP can do whatever you wish, you just need to do a bit of reading.
PM me for more specific questions.

Dang, I'm pretty interested in getting one, I'm just a bit worried about the screen, does it get scratched easily?

The screen is pretty hardy, but it is a fingerprint magnet -- I was constantly rubbing fingerprints and dust off the case. You can buy aftermarket screen protectors if you're really worried:

You can install Windows 95 on it, anyone know if you can OC it?
For screen protectors, get on of these http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-be-70-fd6.html 5 bucks at gamespot or wherever, and they are amazing, no scratches no worries.
D_o_S: yes you can overclock them. The chip runs anywhere from 1 to 333 mHz, coming stock at 222. There are certain emulators out there that will allow you to run 333, and Sony eventually will modify the firmware to start it out that way. The software you run on the PSP actually detemines the clockspeed, so software developers can turn it up to 333 if nessescary. The only downfall is battery life reduction.
There are a couple Windows shell programs and even a PSPOS out ther ewritten in LUA script(a PSP programming language essentially). Look on www.PSPupdates.com for more info on all of that.

pspupdates is a money making scheme site. The owners don't care about the PSP, just the money they can drain out of the community.
http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/ is a much better site with owners that care.
http://www.psp-spot.com/ is good too.

And you say this because? Is it beccause of that free PSP site that they had up? I've been there thousands of tiems and not payed a dime. Not to mention they are one of the most comprehensive sites as far as news is concerned and their file archive is immense. I don't see why you need site owners that care if you are just using a site for information and downloads.

I have it over one of those Asus Pocket PCs because of the controls, that's the only reason.
That's also the reason I have a GP32, good controls and the company that makes it is very willing to let you program on it, I havn't even seen a single retail product for it. I'm planning on picking up the GPX2 when that comes out too.

Nope, because of their advertisements. Their staff conforms to anything the advertisers want. They do everything to make their sponsers happy.

The memory stick doesnt have enough space for a dvd.
The memory stick doesnt have enough space for a dvd.
A 1 gig can hold a very nicely encoded DVD rip (legal of course) with about 400 megs to spare. I have encoded Reservoir dogs in PSP format(remember very small resolution) and it's around 640Mb. Leaving room for 5 or so CD's or some games.
U have to buy movies in their own format which sucks.....

What!?!? What is the size of an average DVD?
U have to buy movies in their own format which sucks.....
Not if you own it and then convert the files over to PSP format. Shrinking the DVD down to that res. and slightly less than true quality then you can get them around 600-700 MB.
the adds for PSP X Studio says that you can fit a full DVD on a 512 mem stick....id reccomend the 1 gig stick for good quality tho

I use it to browse this forum from the bed (GF doesn't allow my laptop in the bedroom). Listen to podcasts. Get hooked on Lumines. Watch CSI/Threshold on the way to work.

I picked one up for 100$ used and it came with lumines, a 32MB pro duo, and a face shield.
You need to do alot better, and this isn't the B/S section.
