View Full Version : Pimping My Case

Well, my dad's getting pissed off at me for using the case for his old computer for my gaming rig, so it seems the time is right to get a case for what I like to call, my first Xtreme build. Since this is my first build, I want to leave an impression on all of my "pre-built Best Buy computer loving friends" to prove that home built rigs will always be better than the ones at Best Buy.

Im currently thinking about choosing a Lian-Li PC-V2000B. If there are any other flavours, such as the V2000B Plus or whatever that you think is worth the money over a PC-V2000B, then post away. I might want to go with WC so I don't want a case that won't be able to fit this all in. Another thing about the V2000, I've heard that it is hard to find wiring long enough to get from the PSU to the mobo on this case. Anyone know if my OCZ Powerstream wires will be sufficient?

Now, since I want a lasting impression, what would you guys recommend to get me the most pimp rig? I want it to be silent as well though (thus my choice of a case with 120mm fan instead of dual 80mm). I should be ordering this in about a week.

P.S. Sorry for the long post

you cannot really go wrong with v2000b, its an amazing case
as for the pimping and silence, i say put together a nice wc system including a pa120.x and some nice and quiet fans

WC is a maybe for now, and will not be coming for a while. Some nice 120mm fans and some quiet 80mms will achieve the silence factor, along with a TT Bigtyphoon cooler when I get it. But I can't seem to figure out what will look the best through the window of the case. Any opinions on an attractive theme and what parts I'll need to buy?

Why not build your own case?

This was the first build in my life. I wanna stay in the noobish area, plus me only 14 years old. Doubt my dad will let me use all them power tools, AND I have no clue where to start. :stick: If you guys have any guides or something, then I MIGHT consider building one later, but for now it is strictly pre-built cases. So you guys got any ideas for a nice theme?

I'm building my own and Ive had no idea. A power drill, aluminum angle, acryllic, and a jigsaw and its almost done.

I don't have access to that sort of stuff at the moment :( . So any recommendations on what lights, what colours, what fans, and where to put everything? Come on, help out a brother with his first build.

well if u love ferrari is there any other choice than ferrari red? interior lights, why stick to one color? have a couple of different cold cathodes and a switch on each, you can mix colors also that way. maybe get some exhaust tips and use em for things like blowholes, air intakes, etc! :woot:

Well, if he's fourteen, his father isn't going to let him spend $400 on all that for a case. I'm his age, and if I asked my dad for $400 for a case, he'd be like WTF...so

2 paint cans $20 and 2 exhaust tips about $30, from most car parts stores and the cold cathodes, say 3 colors at $45 and the case $100 - $200.
so $200 - $300 for the whole thing

Ferrari Freak, could you show a pic of the PC looking directly in front of the mobo with the side pannel off?
This could help me photochop what your PC would look like.

Since you are not using phase change or any fancy cooling that requires a lot of space, I would recommend going smaller and cheaper.

Xoxide.com is selling the PC-V1000B for $188.99 right now.
http://www.xoxide.com/lianlipcv1000b.html
You could also buy the side pannel window on the same site here:
http://www.xoxide.com/lian-li-w-v1000b.html

Did you already buy the Xoxide Aluminum LED fans?
They wont work on this case. You'll need 120mm fans
On the same site, this Cooler Master 120mm Red LED fan look nice and silent:
http://www.xoxide.com/cooler-master-120mm-fan-tlf-s12-er-led-red.html
You need 2x of those for your case (One on the front and one on the back of your case)

For lighting, get these:
Logisys 15in Red CC lights
http://www.xoxide.com/logisys-15in-ccfl-red.html
Since they are 15 inches wide, this will help spread light on your entire case.
Get 2x of these (one on the top, the other on the bottom of your case)

EDIT: Almost forgot you need another light on wile the CC are off when there is no sound. I would get some UV lighting. I hope you sleeved all your cables with red UV. If you havent sleeved them, you will need to buy about 3x Vantec Sleeving Kits (That's what it took me to sleev what you see on my gallery, and only used a bit of the third kit)
For UV lighting, get 2x Logisys 15in UV CC lights
http://www.xoxide.com/logisys-15in-ccfl-uv.html

So this is what it what it adds up:
*Lian Li PC-V1000B - $188.99
*PC-V1000B Window Panel - $49.99
*2x Cooler Master 120mm Red LED fans - $17.58
*2x Logisys 15in Red CC lights - $17.98
*2x Logisys 15in UV CC lights - $17.98
*3x Vantec Red UV Sleeving Kits - $26.97

Total = $319,49

if you go "small" this case is not small go 1200b plus is better than the 1000b

Since he's in Canada, he needs to buy things from Xoxide.com (But newegg.com anounced they would ship to Canada recently anyway)
Right now Xoxide is selling the v1000b for $188.99 and the v1200b for $222.99.
And he wants a side pannel window, but I dont see any side panel windows sold for the v1200b on Xoxide.com
Its eather the expensive v2000 + a side panel window, or the smaller v1000 + a side panel window, or the v1200b and a moded side panel window.

Afther discussing with Levi about the v1000 vs the v1200, there is a way of getting the v1200 cheaper than the v1000 + the side pannel, but you will have to do the following:

1) Buy the v1200 plus from Monarch Computers here:
http://www.frozencpu.com/images/products/detail_hires/cpa-95.jpg

2) Mod your own side panel window.
http://img419.imageshack.us/img419/6162/v12003zf.gif

The total will change to:
*Lian Li PC-V1000B - $199.99
*2x Cooler Master 120mm Red LED fans - $17.58
*2x Logisys 15in Red CC lights - $17.98
*2x Logisys 15in UV CC lights - $17.98
*3x Vantec Red UV Sleeving Kits - $26.97

Total = $280.50

Wow, I'm suddenly getting bombarded with ideas. I'll have a look at all of them, then choose which one. Turok, I didn't buy the Xoxide aluminum fans, they were out of stock when I went to order :p: . Thanks a lot guys, I'll probably have my decision made by tomorrow or so. mvagusta, that is a sick idea :slobber: . I might consider that sometime after I'm done putting the finishing touches on my rig.

Well my son is 9yrs old and he just put together a great modded system!! starting with a case that was $39 delivered! I have neve seen a case no matter how sweet improve a benchmark not one point. I have not seen one case of any brand that did not benefit from modding. No case, even one for $200+ has as good of air flow as it could have. Now as for your dad and tools. I can only hope that he would dive right into this with you. that's what life is all about. My son uses all my power tools with me right there with him. Tell your dad I said to get in there and work with you on this!!

You could also get an acrylic case and put some lights in it.

You guys are rushing me too much! I just built my first rig, I'm gonna get a Lian-Li for now, and then think about the home-built case later. For now it is strictly Lian-Li. Sorry for disappointing all of you DIY case lovers. :p:

Ok, well I had a look at the V1200, and the depth looks kind of wierd to me. So I'm gonna stick with the V1000, or V2000 depending on which one my dad will let me buy (in black colour of course), and then go with the theme that Turok designed. I'll post my choice of case after I ask my dad.

v1200 is better for wire managment and is better case overall believe 1200>1000 and you have more space if you want to place a WC in there some day

believe the 1000 is old case the 1200 is the newer version upgraded and with less flaws
