Hello

First: Sorry for my bad english^^. :(

Second: I damaged my 7800GTX while starting my PC yesterday. I soldered the Vcore-mod only and then i tested the mod. It runs w/o any problems.
Then, i applied the Vdimm-mod. The ground-point-connection (for the 200Ohm-trimmer) was very weak. It was so weak, that the 200Ohm-trimmer disconneced from the ground point after few seconds i startet my PC. I used the metal-ring (the ring, where the screws are beeing sticked trough) as a groundpint cause i damaged the original ground-point.
I turned on my PC, and after few second i heard some noise (The trimmer was connected after build-in): It was like an old wooden door in motion, but not so loud. Then, i recocnized that the ground-point-connection was disconnected and i fealt warm air coming from my 78000GTX. As i moved my finger to turn off the PC, it turned of "automatically". I touched the Zalman VF-700 (Heatsink) and the Mosfet-Heatsink. Both were very hot^^. Within seconds, maybe 10-15 seconds, the 7800GTX became very hot^^. I tried to turn on my PC, but there was no reaction, nor the HDDs moved, nor the fans moved, nor anything. W/o the 7800GTX, my PC started as usual.
Within these 10-15s i was able to meassure Vdimm and Vcore: Vdimm was at 2,186V (about 80kOhm) and Vcore was at 1,5XYV (about 160Ohm)

So i removed all solder from the 7800GTX which was applied by me and went to my local dealer. I told him something about blabla, but not about my solder-action^^. He believed me, and gave to me a new 7800GTX^^ (warranty)... Now, i dont know if i should apply the mod again^^

Is it possible, that the (sudden) disconnection from the groung-point is a reason for the increased heat? Or is it the damaged original ground-point?

I also damaged my original point on my first attempt at the mod, having the mod disconnect in the middle of use has no problems except that the voltage will return to the stock values, provided that the breaking does not result in some wire shorting something else out. If you rip off the solder pad on the side of an SMD capacitor, it should not cause fatal damage to the part. I know, cuz I did it.

If you're too afraid to do it yourself, perhaps you would be willing to have one of the people around here do it for you!

Just my thoughts

No problem for me, but i am living in Austria :-) I thought about a friend nearby me (he studied electric engineering.) , but i cant say to him: "Please solder for me, and if ya damage the 7800GTX, then ya have to pay for it^^"

Does anybody know if there are shops or something which are soldering with "insurance for damaging"?

Try www.pctweaker.de , in past they did a lot of Vmods for Motherboards, maybe they will do it for u.
