View Full Version : Please Help with the setup
I just bought the Gigabyte 3D Aurora case for Watercooling. Now to with the components. I'm kinda split between some parts. Can you guys help me decide? I'd like to go with 0.5"ID system that has best cooling and quietness.
System: Socket 478 3.2E D0 & X800Pro
CPU Block: SwiftTech Storm or AquaXtreme MP-05SP ? (1)
GPU Block: SwiftTech MCW55 or AquaXtreme MP-01? (2)
Pump: SwiftTech MCP655 or AquaXtreme 50Z-DC12-T (3)
Rad: DD Heater Core (2x120mm) with shrouds or MCR-220 or BIP2 ? ((4)
Res&F&B: Which way should I go with? Res or DD Fillport?
As of now, 1, 2, 3, 4 are what's confusing me. I'd like the best performace but don't know how they'd match up (flow rate, restrictive, etc). I'd like this system to be able for future upgrade ot chilled liquid system if I change my mind and be able to transfer to my other system that I have in my P180 with the Ninja (LGA775 3.2Ghz + X850XT)
Please give me your inputs
Thanks a lot :)

CPU: either of your choices are great.
GPU: get the MP-01. it should (theoretically) cool slightly better.
Pump: the 50Z has more head pressure. get it.
Rad: the heatercore won't fit on the inside but a BIP2 might. i'd get a BIP2.
Res: just do a T-line.
is there any difference between the performance of those two Rads? If the BIX2 fit then I'd get it as well. I have two type of fans, one is the thermaltakes pushing at 79cfm each and the other is the deltas at 130fm each.
I was thinking of the Push method where the rad will be outside and the two inside fans will push it. My ambient temp is pretty good plus I think that the AUrora wil have a good flow (the side BIG mesh grill for new cool air)

the heatercore will perform better with the delta fans but the BIP will be very competitive with the lower CFM fans. it all depends on how much noise you are willing to tolerate. also i'd get the BIP2 simply because it looks like a PERFECT fit for those 2x120mm fans there in the rear.
pulling is generally going to give you slightly better temps.
and i like that case. it's not perfect but it's got a lot of great qualities about it. looks like it'll house your WC components easily.

That's the number 1 reason why I got the case. I'm leaning more toward silence but at the same time, max cooling possible. I really don't know what to do ?? Black Ice X-FLOW - PROII???

I have read that fans are more efficient if they're pulling rather than pushing. I could physically feel more air being moved through the rad when I switched from a push to pull. Don't know if you're considering a push/pull setup; but when I ran that, the only two things I noticed were the same temps and more noise. ;) Hope this helps!
BTW, got with a fillport if you don't mind cutting the case. Me, I can't bring myself to cut my Lian Li (yet ;) )... so I went with a res. :D
Black Ice X-FLOW - PROII is for restrictive system. Would it be the best bet for both silence and performance as the aquaxtreme blocks?
Also, what's about the MCR-220 from swifttech. Would it be better than BIP2 for the noise factor?

i'm telling you... get a BIP2. it will fit perfect and the fans will be INSIDE the case, encapsulating the noise. get some Nexxus fans, they are really quiet and perform very well. this will give you some kick ass performance while not hurting your ears. you will be very happy with it.

moonlight: personally, I light 7volted san aces (unmodded) and supposedly (according to weapon at least), when they're modded and 7volted they're as silent if not quieter than nexus fans... but i still dunno how to mod them.
To each his own though ;)
marlow: looks nice, but i dont like the quick-fittings :-/
yes Marlowe, yes, you've finally come around. Is the BIP2 that I see? How does it performs? :D :toast:
hm..........an overall thought over raises a question. Since the BIX2 and heatercore have thicker area, thus require strong fans to pull or push air through. However, it'll won't be as quiet. If I'm to have them as push & pull setup with 4 of those fan at lower voltages and CFM, will that be as efficience and more quiet since two of those fans are already Inside the case.???
thanks

4 fans? even when they are under-volted it'll be noisy. VERY nice setup Marlowe. looks perfect. i think i may just buy that case and get a BIP2 myself after i finish this case i'm modding now.
did you have to do any modding? and will the rad fit on the inside of the case on top of the fans with the fans pulling through it? if so, this baby is my next purchase.
Now I'm leaning more toward the Pro2. However, someone also recommend the swifttech MCR-220. It's like a cross between the Pro2 and BIX2. Should I get that one instead?
Also, about these hypes for the X-flow. We've yet to see any data comparison between these 3 series: Pros, X-flows, and the new MCRs.
hm....... I can't decide since most likely, my system's flow is more restrictive if I go for all AquaXtreme. That's why I'm lookin to get a perfect match for it and silence at the same time. The X-Flow2 have the description that matches, but couple people suggested the pro2 and the MCR220.

yes Marlowe, yes, you've finally come around. Is the BIP2 that I see? How does it performs? :D :toast:Yes that is the BIP2 you see. ;) To be honest I don't know how it performs yet, since I'm looking for a replacement for my L30, and also I haven't found a good waterblock for my dothan yet.
No modding where needed for fitting the rad - its screw holes are perfectly alligned with the cases'. You must however keep it a few millimeters out from the back plate to let the door close.
I'm also not too happy with the quick fittings, but it came like this and I'm not sure how or if I can do anything about it.
will the rad fit on the inside of the case on top of the fans with the fans pulling through it?The BIP2 won't fit inside, no. The top 120mm fan is just a few millimeters under the psu, so there's no space for the top tank.. And undernieth the locking handle for the expansion slots are standing up right under the lower fan. Also it would be fairly long inwards the motherboard so could possibly come over the cpu and its cooler.. but if you have it there I guess you have a waterblock over it anyways so I guess it could be okey..
Ahh.. sorry for spelling mistakes I'm drunk
cool. Please inform us to when you'll get it installed and the performance :)
Marlowe, can you estimate if there's any clearance issue if it's to mount a BIX3 there? I guess the only one would be VGA connector right?
