Morning gents!

Ive not long had this pelt setup now (about a month maybe) and everything has been running smoothly until my better half came along. I have my system setup so when i flick one wall switch it turns on/off the pump and the pelt. I left the machine downloading the cod2 demo and went out to meet a few m8s (only an hour or so) and while i was away my missus used the PC then shut it down, but didnt switch off the wall socket.
When ive switched on the pump/pelt without the PC running for a while it just gets real cold, goes into minus degrees inside of 5 minutes. Problem is it was running for 1/2 and hour to an hour like this and i have no idea what happened!
Suffice to say my CPU temp is 40C atm, a tad warmer than the 8C it was yesturday. Im assuming theres no loose connections as the case hasnt been touched. I did get the pelt 2nd hand though so it might be quite old if that could help???

Pelt will likely be shafted. Now acting as an insulator to slowly cook your CPU.

I would second that, you'll probably have to get a new peltier :(

does this mean peltiers will die if they go below a certain temperature?

Wait... Pelt and pump running? So its just freezing cold plate. Should be fine if your fans were still running on that switch, otherwise may be shafted a tad.

I assume so, as they usually have a manufacturers rating - I think is somewhere near -60 Degrees C. Although that sounds like it may be out...

I don't beleive so. Your pelt isn't going to have come near -60C.

It is possible though, with a Dt of 69, and chilled water cooler then it could well do. It's unlikely though, especially under load!

naa it was fine luckily. Curious thing happened thou, the negative wire burnt out! Ive had to solder on a wire to the ones coming of the pelt as theyre not long enough and it burnt thru the connection somehow..... Odd thing is i did the same thing again and the positive wire burnt thru at the connection. Why the hell would that happen if i left it running???

P.S I have the pump and TEC PSU on the same socket that i switch on when i turn on the PC. The fans are connected to the PC PSU as im to lazy to attatch them to the TEC PSU. It is a 120.3 though! So it was just the pelt and pump on, no heatload on the cold side.

If the wire is not thick enough to take the current, the wire will act as a resistor. The resistance will cause an increase in temperature which can eventually burn out the wire...

Yep.... make sure the wire you use is rated for the current the TEC is gonna be pulling down it. Personally, I always use 2-core mains lead.
